Default A1(M) speed trap

I don't usually get into police/speed camera threads but......

Yesterday having just joined A1(M) the overhead signs were showing '50 pedestrians in road'....

Clearly there were no pedestrians in the road, the road was in fact clear, very clear, and it was hard work staying at 50...

....low and behold a mile or so down the road was plod with his laser parked up.

Now surely this is not legal. For one 'if' there 'were' people in the road, surely they should be attending the scene, not parked up on the side making money?

To make matters worse, the 50 stayed on for a good ten miles...

Anyone else caught in this yesterday?

Where did the 50 pedestrians come from? Surely they should be more careful!

did the 50mph have a red circle round it?

if not, then its only a advisory speed, and the 70mph still stands, thats what i was led to belive

Hmmm, cannot remember, I would assume as they had set up a speed trap it would have had a circle around it.....

and it was hard work staying at 50

You should give up driving if you can't do a simple thing as keeping a constant speed.

If it's one of the overhead signs like this....

Then it's advisory.

The laser guns are not a fixed penalty though so if you are going a few miles an hour over and the roads are dead you havet he chance to talk your way out of it.

Have you perhaps thought that there MAY HAVE BEEN pedestrians in the carriageway prior to you coming through and the sign may not have been changed?

The signs are advisory so the copper "making money" as you put it will not have clocked you....

Yes, I did think that.. until I saw the speed trap...

So anywhere where there is a variable speed limit and it comes up I should just ignore because its advisory...??!!

This isn't my point, but that seems lost here... maybe should have stayed at sf.com.....
