Test drove a Hawkeye today
Me and the wife took a 56 plate wrx Hawkeye out on a test drive this afternoon and oh dear I was so disappointed
When I was looking round her she was stunning not a mark on any panels the interior was mint
Had a look under the bonnet and oh yes there it was an ej25 block same as im my classic
Then I started here up and this is where it went wrong
Not a sound quiet as a mouse no distinct rumble of a flat 4
but never mind so we started out all was well until we got onto the motorway slip road and the sales man said go on give it some beans so I did and my hart sank
Don’t get me wrong she did go just no where near what I expected I thought she would have thrown us back in the seats like my dose but no
very disappointed in such a lovely looking car

as daddy scoob said try out a sti with the ppp, i did and ok the power doesnt come in as violent as the ej20 but there is a huge band and it has 320hp and 320lb/ft of torque, they push you back in your seat, was gonna buy it until i found out the repayments lol.

The newage cars are far less raw than Classics, and pound for pound don't feel as quick. If you take a look at the speedo as a passenger, you will see the 2.5 gets along at a fair old lick. Agree with you on the lack of burble. Thats why I went for one of the last 2.0 with PPP

I was the same when I drove a bugeye wrx a few years back. All my dreams of owning a Subaru were demolished. I waited a bit then tried my blobeye STI-what a difference! It was how you imagine a Subaru to be! Add some basic exhaust mods and remap then woohoo! Great cars

AndyF Road Dyno
RR results today(with standard GB270 (wrx with ppp) results overlaid)
The RR my car was on had ran 2 GB270's both made 240 BHP, the owner ran his 08 STI which made 265BHP.

Hi mate, how are thre mods going, what spec are you at now? what were the road dyno and rr figures couldnt make them out, all the road dyno figures ive seen of late turn out to be alot higher than the rr results (some mappers inparticular), Andy didnt road dyno my car he just gave me an approximate figure.

2.5 engine, diddy TD04 turbo, and 5 speed box. It's not gonna feel ballistic! The WRX is a brisk car rather than genuinely quick. It can, however, be made significantly faster with a few choice mods
The STi would feel much quicker! Try that!

Im going to have to have a look round for a sti version
The thing is im getting sick of fixing and repairing my classic don’t get me wrong I love it to bits but its seems every time I take it our sumert goes pop I think its just at that age now where im better of just getting rid of it
Its has had a few mod mainly the ej25 block fitted like in the Hawkeye which is why I expected it to go just as well but to be honest the Hawkeye I drove yesterday would have lost hands down
What I want is a standard car that I don’t have to spend a small fortune on to get it to go as well as my classic that’s not going to blow its self apart every time I put my foot down
The thing is my wife is pregnant and I carnt afford to keep paying out to fix the classic I just want a good relay able Scooby with some where near the performance of my classic that is going to last me a few years as a family car to but still have fun when im on my own in it

I do get the point about pining you to the seat, the power delivery is more progressive in the Hawkeye, there's less of the kicks in the pants feeling when the power kicks in. The PPP does give you more of that feeling, or it has for me in my Hawkeye WRX.

A UK STi with the 2.5ltr engine, put about a grand in it to sort the exhaust to get the burble and performance, a few supporting mods and a remap. You'll have a mildly tuned car that puts you through the seat, nevermind pin you to it, it has that much torque. Despite it's rather portly frame, it will be more than a match for a mildly tuned classic and you will likely find the handling considerably improved.
360bhp/390LbFt and my seat belt locks in place every time I push the right pedal with a bit of enthusiasm
