Hi, just bought a W plate, 5 door, registered new in April 00 by a uk dealer but it is a 99MY car, ( not colour coded mirrors etc ) does anyone know if it was common practice for dealers to sell 99MY cars after Jan 00 ?

Only, I guess they'd have had to actually tell you it was an MY00 model and thus been guilty of some kind of deception. (By accident or design).

Otherwise I think it'd fall under "Caveat Emptor".

I waited a long time for my car. I order it in 98. When I heard about the changes for the MY99, I phoned and ordered one of the new colours (DBM)...In total I waited 11 months and 2 weeks.

But then I think my dealership were flogging cars as they saw fit to higher profile customers and stiffing me rotten.

Cynical, moi?

My dealer gave me the choice, have a MY99 now, or wait for a MY00. He pointed out the differences, the price was the same!

I choose to wait.

They will sell you what they have lying around the showroom floor - its up to you to check that you are getting what you think you are getting - I got my MY00 in May 2000 - it would have gone back in the wrapping had it not had the MY00 bits and pieces

Thanks for your comments, I knew it was a MY99 car as soon as I saw it but decided to buy it because it was a very good price and in mint condition. I phoned the dealer that supplied the car and they said it was probably one that had been sitting in the showroom for a while. I have the original sales receipt, the chap paid 22,800 for it so it doesn't look like he got any kind of discount.
