Default Dictatorship or democratic country?

The end of show plates

The DVLA have just told Redline that from 1st November 2008, it will be an offence for anyone to SELL a numberplate which doesn't meet the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 and doesn't conform to British Standard BS AU145d.

Until now, many supplyers of 'show' number plates simply advise their customers that non-compliant number plates cannot be used on the road and are for display purposes only. But under the new rules, it will now be an offence to supply any non-compliant number plates irrespective of any advice given.

So as of 1st November this year, we could well see an end to the number plate stands at shows selling show plates... that is unless the sellers in question don't mind becoming: "A person supplying number plates that do not conform with the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001 and the British Standard BS AU145d (an offence under section 28 of the Vehicles (Crime) Act 2001)." and risk being nicked...

Just another jobsworth somewhere, making up rules just for the sake of it in a misguided attempt to justify his existance. Very likely stems from an EU directive?
I can see a law which makes it illegal to modify the mechanical componants beyond the manufacturers specification, coming in the not too distant future! Is it not already in existance in some countries?

It has only come to this because tw*ts drive round on public roads with them on, so don't blame the European jobsworths, blame the idiots who flaunt the law and who have now ruined it for the rest of us.

I believe France has funny laws on tuning engines. Thats why they concentrate on styling and produce some right monstrosities.

This sort of thing happens because some people just take the **** all the time. The numberplate should be legible from an appropriate distance so as to be able to identify the vehicle. How would you feel if some prat with illegible plates mowed down your mum on some pedestrian crossing, drove on without stopping, and witnesses were unable to read the numberplate?

I don't have a problem with motorcycle plates that are slightly smaller than they should be or front plates on some cars that are slightly smaller because they don't fit right otherwise (e.g. some Alfas, Evo's etc) but they should all be in the right font with the correct background with country/Euro logo if wanted.

Stupid fonts, daft backgrounds, idiot comments at the bottom and incorrect spacing in an attempt to spell out some garbage are the preserve of brainless ********* who deserve some kind of punishment in lieu of the reverse-lobotomy they need that isn't yet freely available on the NHS.
