Default Visit to Andy F

I had my car mapped by Andy on Thursday after Duncan at Hypertech had fitted the parts, and I'm very happy with the results
The car is a GB270 the mods were:
VF34 turbo ported by Andy F
Milltek 3" decat
walbro fuel pump
green panel filter
GP moto intake elbow
STI TMIC
NGK ILFR7H plugs

Over the two dyno runs the average figures were 345bhp/379lbft
Amazing difference.

The Milltek exhaust is superb, not too loud when cruising but superb sound when hitting boost.

Those are cracking results for what is essentially a mildly modded WRX

Like a different car after the remap isn't it.

It will be a 2.5 - IIRC GB270 was an 07 > plate. Obviously a UK spec.

that is big power results for a wrx mate. nice one. Makes you think is it worth buying a sti if you can get these results out of them.

How much to achieve that? if you don't mind me asking. I'm considering similer myself and yours sounds very impressive.

All in it cost me around £2700, can be done cheaper, I bought all the parts new, apart from the STI Intercooler.
I must admit I can't belive the difference in the car
Before I spent the money on the engine, I had whiteline 24mm rear ARB , alloy droplinks and ALK fitted and fast road geometry setup, along with the prodrive springs which the car was supplied with.
The whiteline stuff made the car handle alot better and I would recommend getting that done first.

I hope you've upgraded the brakes too running that kind of power, or does the GB270 get brembos as standard?

I'm going for the ARB and droplinks next but have decided not to go for the ALK as have been told it actually makes lift worst... making it a lift kit

As to the poster who said why bother going STi when the WRX can be modded to be as good, if not better, relatively easy... all I have to say is DCCD, Brembos and 6 gears... but then any car can be modded to be better than another with the budget. I have put £1k in my STi to get slightly better results than the OP but then the outright purchase price of the STi new is higher... so 6 and 2 3s really.

The brakes are next, for the moment I will just have to drive within the limits of the WRX brakes, which aren't too bad.
The STI is an allround better package with the brembos, stronger internals and the stronger gearbox(with hindsight I should have probably bought one).
Before I spent the money modifying my car I looked at trading it in against a STI. I looked at a couple, both were hawkeyes and were older with a higher mileage than my car.
The dealers were asking for between £6500 and £7000 to change, there was no way I was giving them that.
So I'm very pleased with the car just now and will probably continue to spend money on it, as I would have done if I had bought an STI.

To be fair mate, I wouldn't class the GB270 as just a WRX anyway... although I know essentially it is just that. I would rather buy one and do just what you are doing than buy a standard STi as I am not a fan of the standard STi interior and general styling. I guess all these special and limited editions means there is something for everyone! I was simply making the point to the chap who made a bit of a sweeping statement and IMHO an incorrect conclusion.

I would get the brakes sorted if I was you. The WRX brakes are ok up until about 300bhp for an average driver IMHO. You are now running way beyond standard STi power, which as you know Subaru deem better brakes essential. Of course all this really depends on how good a driver you are. An expensive upgrade I know...

No problems with your comments mate
I did notice a bit of brake fade after the whiteline stuff was fitted as I was cornering faster. The brakes will be changed, but for the moment I drive the car within in the limits of the standard brakes.
I felt the ALK did make a fair bit difference on the standard car, but since the remap there is alot more lift, don't know how it would drive now without the ALK.

I'll hunt out the post about the ALK. Someone provided it for me when I was considering it. Basically the gist was Andy F essentially got Whiteline to admit from test results that it didn't work as they anticipated. I am no expert though.

Lovely car you have and the result is great! Have you got a graph of the results? Is maximum torque achieved at lower rpm?
Excuse my ignorance but is the VF34 a twin scroll turbo?
What is a GP moto intake elbow?
Have you got better throttle response and less lag now?
Cheers

P.S. post some pics up of the beast

No, it's not twin scroll mate.

To the OP: Nice result- gotta love the torque gains of a 2.5 engine!

I have a WRX with mid/high 300's bhp. your brakes won't survive as they are. Do it right 1st time (I took 3 attempts) and get some K-sport 8 pot brakes and you won't be able to destroy them whatever you do.

Andy is a legend, my best figures have been 370/405 @powerstations RR in my 06wrx with a td05-20g and she's been sweet as a nut since Andy mapped it(about 2 yrs ago), spoke to people who have done brembo conversions on their wrx's and said the difference was'nt noticeable.

How many miles have you done since the remap (and how many has the car done in total)?
Have you had any problems since the remap?
I am looking at having my car mapped next time I am in UK.
Cheers

Graph

The GP moto intake elbow removes the resonator between the intake and the airbox.

GP Moto Intake Elbow, WS11304, Subaru STi GP Moto Intake Elbow

The VF34 spools up slightly later than the TD04, but not that noticable on the 2.5
