Can anyone help? I've just been offered £18500 for a 3 month old UK MY00(+Aircon) written off by insurance company. My policy states I should be entitled to a brand new car but the appearence of the new model has thrown a spanner in the works - they class it as a different car and will pay cash instead. In order to challenge the amount offered they want me to send evidence of x -reg cars advertised at a higher price.

So has anyone seen any extotionate prices for an MY00 with Aircon?

Boost II,
Check out a few dealers. Some of them may still have unregistered MY00's for sale. If this is the case, the insurance company might buy you one of these.

Cool

Another dealer with a brand new MY00 in stock - Wilsons of Chadwell Heath, Essex.
DBM, yum yum I fancy it myself...but can't justify buying a new one.

If you're lucky, then they will pay you as much as the most expensive quote.

However, often the insurers will find a cheaper car and say that this is a comparable car, and hence they will only pay the lower amount.

Be prepared to argue your case.

If you want the new Impreza then I'd argue with them since it is NOT a different model. If necessary your Dealer should be able to confirm this in a letter.

FYI my insurance company offered me a new for old and I declined, so they gave me just over £20K cash instead (6 month old MY00 Wagon with aircon and about 5K miles).

Lucas of Mansfield, Notts have an unregistered MY00 £19495. Aircon is a £1000 dealer fit option.

Done some ringing around and getting some £21000-£22000 quotes faxed through which sounds fairer. Spoke to one guy who used to work for an insurance company and says they always try it on to begin with and will usually up the first offer. Also the Wilsons DBM was sold on saturday for £21000.

There is ony one unregistered DBM left in the country now - I'm not sure that I'll be able to afford to insure a new Impreza but I won't say where it is just in case. Apparently there a quite a few red/green.

My insurance company were well aware of the issues surrounding the new model and said whilst they would not use it as a replacement for the previous model at the moment they were looking into changing their policy in the future. I personally wouldn't want it I don't think anyway.
