Default advice please for right upgrade package ?

Hi all. New to Scooby Net and in need of some advice. Ive got an 04 WRX STI PPP which should have about 300bhp. Had it for about a year and now want to increase the power and reduce the lag. Ive been to various garages and they all seen to suggest something different. Im thinking of changing the exhust system to Blitz, new turbo, maybe RCM400 or VF34, FMIC but dont know which, remap the ecutek from 2 to 3 and anything else that will help. Most places are suggesting that I use their parts but I dont know whats best. I aint looking for more top speed, I just want more mid-range grunt and no lag...... any advice would be a help.....cheers

Welcome

Lots of questions and lots of different answers if you ask the Scoobynet missive LOL

It might be better to find a local scooby specialist who can offer sensible advice

Best option is to post wherebouts you live and take it from there

Normal starting place is the exhaust system. You will have more power without the CAT so decide if you are happy with that route. A 3" open neck downpie is worthwhile. The Blitz is very loud so be aware. Personally I would look at Revolution exhaust but with 3" open neck D/P. Also look at Magnex. There are lots of exhausts to choose from but one with proven performance. People mapping these cars all the time will be able to tell you what stands out as a good system and what to avoid.
After that, properly ported O/E headers and matched up-pipe. Tubular headers at this stage would be a step backwards.
You will need an uprated Walbro fuel pump at some point so you should do that before you have your next map. Cost is around £75. Small point but worthwhile would be a 3 port boost solenoid valve if your car only has a 2 port. £40-£50 secondhand. Helps with response.
Regardless of what you end up with, this is all good groundwork for future mods.
Check what turbo you have but I think it is VF35 so that can take you to 340 bhp with the right supporting mods done properly. Your injectors are good for that too.
You now need a remap and the choice of the right mapper is crucial to how your car performs. An Ecutek remap is probably your best choice unless you are going for 500 bhp at some later stage in which case you would look at an aftermarket ECU replacement.
Where are you located?
Bob Rawle in Swindon has been involved with Ecutek from a very early stage and was involved with its development.
If you want more than 340 bhp at this stage then you need to be looking at turbo and injectors on top of the foregoing but trying to take your car beyond 400 bhp on O/E internals is starting to get risky.
