Default Anyone with a high level spoiler. Ever put your car through a car wash?

I'm sure i'll get some bad comments as some people may not like car wash's, but...

As above.

Apparently it can break the spoiler because the sensors don't detect it...?

i used to go through one a lot and never had any problems apart from the tiny scratches left behind and missed bird poo.

i had a replacement bonnet and spoiler in fiberglass and both were ok

If you don't want to do it yourself, get yourself down to your nearest Asda/Tesco. They do quite a good handwash but make sure they use fresh water!!

CAR WASH dont worry about it taking the spoiler off your paint will look crap afterwards your have hairline scratches the lot. If you really don't want to wash the car your self then go to a supermarket and get a hand wash or somwhere similar or if anything bring it by i will happly do it for you. please don't do the car wash idea.

Some folk swear by using a sponge or similar. I went on ebay and got a long bristled horse hair brush. Its brilliant, really soft too and any grit doesn't get stuck in it.

Exclamation

Just a word of warning when using some hand washing places as I've seen them using Fairy Liquid or similar to wash the cars. Paintwork looks good for a couple of days...

^^^

As above really - I would not trust them with my pride and joy. I always do my own with half decent products like Autoglym, Meguiars etc

If anyone is local to Cannock i don't mind hooking up and sharing the use of some of my products.

Got a Megs G220 Machine polisher with abrasive polishes, high end carnauba wax etc etc...

Lets get rid of the hand car wash and swirlomatic car washes lol

I only ever use Meguiars to clean my car,the boot of my subaru is full of different cleaning products etc they do, get your self down your local car shop or ebay and buy a cleaning set, even just spend a hour a week or even a hour a month if you really don't have the time. your paint work will look so much better for it. Some local hand washes do use washing up liquid this is no good for the paint either, its good for removing grease from your paint work but at the same time it takes the polish off. Meguiars cleaning products to clean your car and theres a place near me called anglia battery think they have a web site there polish is really good its got no additives and leaves a brilliant shine and alot easy to use then meguiars

advice from somebody who has his own carwash business

it totally depends on the spoiler

example

classic v4 spoiler = ok
classic v5/6 spoiler = problems due to the shape (it does not slope backwards enough)
celica gt4 spoiler = ok because its a constant slope backwards

most roof brushes are based on a counter weight system, although some of the garage forecourt systems do use a "magic eye" sensor system that shoots a beam of light over the car and anything that breaks the beam, lifts the brush.

the picture posted above is NOT from car wash damage, car wash systems usually have the "bristles" moving in one direction only, so any marks would be in straight lines, and yes i have tested this on my own personal car over a 6 month period (3 washes per week)and never polished/waxed it

circles and mad diagonal lines are simply impossible with the wash i am at right now.

if in doubt, have a word with the operator and ask them if it will be a problem, personally, we have a roof brush lift button on ours that clears the roofbrush away from anything that will cause concern, but garage forecourt unattended type washes don't have this feature.

ps i do realise this will all fall on deaf ears anyway lol

if in doubt, clean it yerself ya lazy *******

we use them for the prewash stage at our place, along with grit guards in the soap container, as with anything else, care still needs to be taken.

had a mate clean his own car at our place and not rinse the brush and it left marks

Use the local £1.50 car wash all the time with a V5 spoiler. No probs with it.

Sometimes I even splash out and extra 49p for a prewash

NOT true mate.

The circlular pattern is to do with how the light reflects and the scratches are in fact randomly straight, its just the light that does that !

i agree that they are randomly straight, but carwash brushes go in straight lines across a panel, they do not usually do random straight lines, if they do, then that means the brush is wobbling its **** off and is about to fly off and kill somebody, so random scratches are the least of your worrys.

with all due respect you have soaked up a little to much of the horror scare stories from the various "detailers" and i doubt you have actually seen a proper piece of test equipment setup to show exactly what marks can appear with a rotational brush system

i have ****loads of regular taxi drivers, coming in every 2 days for a cheap wash (for years), they never wax or polish, they simply do not care, and the marks on the cars are straight, and all in the same direction. going down the flanks in straight lines and up over the bonnet roof tailgate in straight lines

i was actually trained to spot "damage" as part of my training and i know exactly what can happen and when, you would be surprised just how many people come in trying to pull a fast one and claim for cash i had about 10 last year, and we put 33k cars through the machine

remember i even tested this out on my very own car over a 6 month period, and the "damage" that i had at the end of the test was easy fixed by polishing.

I still have to disagree and would like to see some pictures of these straight scratches.

But it is my opinion and if i am wrong then fair enough
