Default Dent in fuel tank

I stupidly reversed over a rock and it has dented my fuel tank on my Hawkeye WRX 2.5l. It is on the drivers side and the fuel gauge is now reading all wrong. The needle only goes down to just above 1/4 full, and doesn't reach the top of the gauge even when I fill the tank. I can only assume that I have knocked or bent the fuel level sensor in that side of the tank and the float is sitting higher than normal. Is it possible to reach inside the tank through the access panel in the boot, to possibly try and push the dent back out from inside the tank? I know I will have to remove the sensor/fuel pump to gain access, but am not sure about how big the hole will be once these are removed. I am assuming the pump is on the drivers side from other threads I have read. I know it is my own fault for not seeing the rock, bit it is a real pain not having a fuel gauge that is somewhere near accurate.

should be possible to get the majority of the dent out (going off my classic), but it would be best to drain the tank first !

and check you don't rupture it before filling it back up

Sounds like the sensor is stuck reading quarter tank, the dent shouldn't make much difference.

Cheers, will try to get what I can of the dent out from the inside, and check that the sensor is not stuck or bent while I am in there!
