The only live mappable standard impreza ecus are 99/00 (using Ecutek).

At some point soon they will have the ability to map the standard 97/98 ecu but for the moment you are limited to aftermarket stuff, the cheapest being the apexi power fc.

its 500 notes, discontinued so only second hand available selling at what they was new,,,, not a good deal to me IMO

i was just gonna look at getting a 97 ecu chipped if possible for track use then maybe get another for road use,,,, means i can have good fuel economy and get 2 maps if that makes sence

Have you had your car checked out? maybe it'll be running fine on the Mines..

Other option you have (like already said) is the PFC. You may be able to get a 2nd hand one fro Japan (ebay)for reasonable money. But then you obviously have to pay to get it mapped and if you're not changing anything I still reckon you'd be better off getting your current setup checked out. If it turns out sweet enough you'll save yourself a few quid.

i wanna change the spec of the car so need a ecu i can chip, i know the mines is fine cause ive done 1 track day, 25 laps of the ring and alot of VERY high speed drives for extended periods of time,,,,, 140ish runs till the tank was empty a then refill it

just want the option, gonna look at the simtec as it sounds a good bit of kit from the people who have it

is a new loom required for the simtec ?

The A, B & C Series PFC has been discontinued. The V3/V4 and the V5/V6 versions are still available.

I personally love the apexi PFC's hand commander so I'd go for that, that's just my opinion though. I had a PFC on my evo 4 and all seemed factory (from the drive, starting etc point of view) yet it also went like hell.

I like the sound of the twin maps on the simtek, but there was a couple of guys saying about hunting idle and waiting 20 secs before starting the car etc.. **** that on a road car.

You can fiddle with the PFC yourself (without writing to the map) ie take the timing back a couple of degrees if you get stuck without super unleaded, bit gimmicky I guess but I liked to fiddle Also I loved the display.. knock levels, air inlet temp, water temp etc etc I'm a paranoid gauge watcher so it's perfect for me.

The idle can hunt but i find it's only for say the first minute or two after that it's perfectly fine, having your coilpacks in good running order helps a lot.

Besides my flywheel is only 5.2kgs

As for the 20 second before starting, since when, all i have to do is wait for my fuel system to prime which is about two maybe three seconds and off i go.

Certainly no different from my standard wrx was to drive.

Possibly, id be more inclined to say they have a fault somewhere or they're still using the standard fuel pump which is having a hard time coping with the increase, either way it's fuelling related and needs investigating.

Im running 550cc injectors with a 255lph fuel pump, no problems whatsoever, im sure many on here can attest to the simtek's reliability.

However i have replaced two of the four coilpacks that did smooth things out nicely perhaps theirs need replacing?
