Unhappy My MY03 STI failed it's M.O.T.........

Hello,

Bit of a long story cut short. My Cars been in the Dealership for it' 5year 50K service, plus some extras to be fitted. Also it was there for it's M.O.T. Unfortunately I have been told it's failed because of a perished anti-roll bush on the front. The cars only done just over 16K and only used rarely, majority of it's life is left in the garage. Anyone else had an issue with perished anti-roll bushes on their newage scoobies?

With the amount of money they have taken off you for a service and MOT I would be pretty pissed off that they never just replaced the bush and passed the MOT - they will now want another £20 for a retest.

Yes, if it's just been serviced by them, you could argue that a fault that made the car unroadworthy should not have gone unreported.

I would not pay for a retest fee.

Cheers for the comments and advice

The cars been in since Monday, could have been in for a 3rd day but for the fact i couldn't keep the loan car for a 3rd day due to it being used by someone else on Wednesday.
The issues have been that the bolts holding the CAM Had to be broken off and new ones put on. Also I bought some gauges from Gaugeplace which I asked them to fit, but unfortunately they got confused and Nick from Gaugeplace had to sort it out over the phone with them. So on Thursday I have to get the car back to the garage so it can have the new bush fitted, Re-mot'ed and the gauages wired correctly I was told that what I paid for today will be it, except for the bushes. So will argue this with them on Thursday. What gets me though is I have had the car for 4 years, hardly used it yet the bushes have just perished Just wondering if this is another STI issue that's coming to light like the rear shocks and the battery.

Bushes perish. The mileage is low but rubber will degrade more quickly if it isnt squidged about...

Thanks for that. Will ask the garage if both bushes will be replaced, as it may appear that the right side may need doing at a later stage also.

Pity you can't get hold of a set of polyurethane bushes to give them to fit?

my MY05 Sti failed its MOT on front nearside ball joint being fecked, lucky I had the MOT done early and got the dealers to replace the balljoint under the warranty, the car had been in for its 30K service 1000 miles before the MOT and they missed it!
the car had been pulling to the left under accelleration for quite some time and the new ball joint cured it!

Had a look and noticed you also own a 03 STi. What problems have you encountered when it came to M.O.T time? This is the first time mine has failed it's M.O.T.

Well it's back in the garage today. So hopefully it will pass when the rubbers have been replaced.

Well it's been a painful week thus far. Although the car has now passed it's M.O.T and feels a lot better around corners for the replacement bushes. The car is back in the garage again because it was spitting out Oil due to the gauges and senders fitted in the week. Now have to wait until Monday

Mine just had its 50k. only thing they picked up was the discs on the front being worn and in need of new ones. How much for a new bush?. Mine is also an 03 Sti.

How much have you shelled out for this routine work? I'm reading all this thinking with relief how I've not had a main dealer service my cars for several years. 3 days in for a service and fitting some guages, someones having a laugh.

The service, M.O.T and fitting of the gauges has come to a whopping £720 Plus what I paid for some extras for the car (Wind Deflectors, discounted door sills and some bumper protectors)

The gauages were 3rd party ones from gaugeplace (no fault on gaugeplace to be fair). The issue has been with the fitting of the senders and understanding how they were supposed to be wired up (Thanks to Nick from Gaugeplace for agreeing to speak with them over the phone). My biggest concern at the moment is that the senders for the Oil preassure and temp have been setup to be taken from the manifold. When i believe that they could have easily be taken from the connection where piston no.3 is Anyways I now have to wait until Monday night before I can pick it back up again... Not exactly had the best week off from work

Well yes. But as I have used them for the last 8 years without incident (until now ) and have trusted their work, then as you can understand you stick with someone who was reputable. Who do you use?

Correct. And that's why tyres should be replaced when they are 5 years old too even if they are not worn and especially on a high performance car.

Rubber is a natural substance with a reasonable but, nonetheless, limited shelf life.

Has your car had its T belts done? Hourly £ by a main dealer is steep. Do you have any specialists close to home as they may be cheaper. Bushes do perish when not in use. My own car would fail its mot every year if i was not with it. I make sure the cat is so hot just before the emision test.

Oh my god that is expensive. I've just had my 10 year old scoob MOT'd at a "friendly" garage. Cost me 40 odd quid. Had the 60k mile service(which is a major) done at a specialist a while ago and it cost £400 ish with other stuff being done while it was in.

I would start looking at other garages mate. There's no reason why you cant ask several garages for a quote the next time your needing something done, so you can compare. Not a big fan of dealers at all.
