Default Replacement Engine

Are there any considerations when replacing the standard WRX engine with an STI? The current engines need a new crankshaft, conrods and who knows what else is in there that's gone bang. So I thought I'd cut my losses and replace the engine, the obvious thought was buying a reconditioned STI engine for the instant power increase.

Any advice - is this more work than initially meets the eye?

Cheers in advance.

You will probably need a remap to take advantage of the VF** turbo and the Camshafts on the STi engine.

its not as simple as just getting an sti engine and chucking it in as i found with my project , you need to make sure its the right phase engine i.e 1,1.5,2,3 ,if you put a sti engine in with all the ancillaries of a wrx it will be the same power as a wrx cause of the level of boost, ecu, injectors (if there diffrent ) basically if you put an sti engine in you need all the supporting sti parts to make it the same power !!!! i have gone for a wrx sti ra engine which is the strongest subaru produced as its the closed deck block ! . have a search o hear plenty of threads all about engine changes .
