Default Why are petrol prices more in the South?

I keep reading posts people have made saying they fill up on optimax and pay £1.18 per litre. Really p!sses me off that I pay £1:30 at the nearest shell. Why should we not all pay the same?

its a pretty well known fact that it is generally more expensive to live darn sarf, hence the larger wages.

Martwrxsl, Dont know where abouts you are but the Shell at the Rayleigh Weir (A127) is one of the cheaper garages around the area. Still over 120 p/ltr, but I've seen worse.....

Land is more expensive..hence rent is more expensive...hence petrol stations have to add a few extra pennies to make the same profit..

I was using the one in Brentwood off the A12. Filled up on Sunday £1.30 something a litre. If Rayleigh is £1.20ish then I'll use that. Thanks mate.

Supermarkets take the **** though. They wouldnt dare sell bread and milk for different prices from store to store, but they charge as much as they can get away with on the forecourt.

I also use the one at the Rayleigh Weir
But if you ever venture down the A127 a bit further, the shell garage in Southend by the Bell pub is also one of the cheaper ones.....£121.9

I do agree with you though, it's ridiculous we should have to pay more because of where we live, it should be the same price country wide!

I understand it probably costs more to deliver to certain areas in the country but when you see petrol companies announcing profits like yesterdays it justs annoys me more!

People have the misconception that everybody who lives’ here works in London and earns over £100,000 per annum. I guess the answer is, dare I say it, emigrate up North.

Simple answer is they are not. I travel all over the country all week and pricing is generally cheaper in cities (due to supply / demand / delivery quantity/ density of garages in a smaller area) and more expensive in the country where the opposite is true north to south seems to make no odds.

Bang in the city is about the only exception I've found and I'd guess as is said that's due to land value.
