Rubbish.
I have AVCR fitted to my 06 STi and it works perfectly and does a far better job of controlling boost than the std ecu ever has apart from when boost was almost standard.
The map needs to be very robust though so will take more fettling to get the fueling and timing right for all posible boost levels that you will want to try out but the time taken for that is easily offset by not having to work on the boost targets, wastegate profiel or turbo dynamics tables.

I'm sure Andy Forrest was more than capable of mapping my car at the time and giving me the advice I needed

Duncan I sent an e-mail to EcuTek when I was looking to get an avcr for my car so I am only repeating what I was told by them.
I remember speaking to you way back about this as I was looking at the spec of your car, and what I was looking for

I am not doubting what you are saying Marc. I just dont think Ecutek would ever tell you the complete truth about being able to control boost on the turbo at higher than 1.55bar.
It is almost impossible to do it without spending decades on the maps. I know that with a large turbo running higher than average boost was very difficult to keep in check using the std boost control circuit/solenoid etc.
Whereas with the avcr it is a doddle and makes for easy and quick changes to boost levels at the flick of a button.
Like I said above, the map has to be tested across the board so that you know that whatever load is generated has the appropriate fueling and timing but it is far easier in the long run and in my opinion far easier in the short term too. Since fitting the AVCR the boost control has been spot on and very easy to adjust. Never the case on the 2006 STI without gear dependant boost targets.
