Default WRX PPP trade in

I have a 53 plate WRX PPP with 49K on the clock, silver in excellent condition. I've been offered 6,500 quid for trade in. Should I bite his hand off??

Cheers,

Matt

Only if the car you are buying is well priced. I'm not at work this weekend to check but I would think £6500 is fairly close to Glasses 'trade' price for your car (ie no over allowance against the car you are buying) stick it up in the for sale forum for £6995, I'm sure someone would see it as good value. Armed with the cash and no PX you can then negotiate a better deal on the new car.

Very difficult car to sell. Too expensive for the chavs to buy, too expensive for the family man to run, not special enough for the man with cash to splash. What car are you looking to buy? If you're paying over the odds for your new one then the trade in value is very misleading.

Had a test drive in a BMW Z4 coupe today and was totally underwhelmed by it. Not what I expected at all. Out of curiosity I followed that by driving a 335d and it blew me away. Couldn't believe an auto diesel could be that good. And fast. Very fast. But the dealer wouldn't budge at all on the asking price, offering me 6500 for mine. Have been thinking it over all day, with the help of Mr San Miguel

What is the spec of the 335d? What options, age and mileage? Sounds to me like he's not doing you any favours, although he does know you've got a car that's going to be a bugger to sell.

TBH I think his trade in is fair. However, he isn't going to want to lose a sale. I'd say make an offer of £26,500 plus your car and then say nothing. The first offer is never the best. I don't think you're going to get loads of money off, but you could squeeze a little more than he is offering.

I think it is safe to say that if you are spending this kind of money you are not going to be bothered by a few hundred quid here and there. If you really love it and it is the spec you want then take the plunge. Don't mess about with a private sale trying to get a little bit more. It'll be stuck on your drive for ages.

You're talking £27850 less the £6500 for your car I take it (£21350 to change) not £27850 plus £6500 for your car (selling price £34350 for the beemer) ?

If it's the latter the seller is something of an optomist !

6500 is a super price for you wrx. we traded one in blob eye, mint, low miles 4grand. thats the nature of the market at the moment, cant afford to take any risks on part ex prices. what bmw usally do though is already knock money off the car, and put it on the part ex price, its not really that clever, but it screws every other dealer over when they offer the customer a decent part ex price.

you can get the Glass' guide prices on the web for about £3 . always worth getting the same figures as the dealers have.

I was always told the PPP didn't make much difference on the trade in but the dealer then upped the resale.......

Sounds like you're snookered. You are trying to change from a very 'undesirable' car to one of the cars of the moment. Don't lose the car for the sake of a few quid. Having slept on it I reckon he's probably offering a fair deal. I wouldn't give you £6500 for your car so as the other guy said, you probably already have your discount.

glasses guide is a guide only, its not a true value on any car, should give u an idea. dealers dont usally make money on part ex's, usally there more hassel than there worth.

In that case not a bad offer at the moment, everyone is being very cautious about PX prices. I would still try for a bit more though as coming up to end of the month dealers are chasing their targets. Offer £20500+ your car (full tank of fuel and 12 months tax on the BMW !) for a deal for this month, then wait for them to call you !

You seem to be more bothered about whether you are getting a fair price for your car than whether the overall deal is any good. It is unlikely anyone (private or trade) will even match £6500 so if you like the BMW and think it is fairly priced then you should take the plunge. I thought this thread was concerned with the overall deal but you kind of seem in denial that your car isn't worth much any more.

Not at all. Guess I'm trying to be optimistic but I'm not naive. Thanks for your feedback guys anyway. Decision time!

OK. Think I'm gonna go for it. The Scoob has been loads of fun over the past two years, but like many other people I'm getting fed up of being shafted left, right and centre for the pleasure of motoring. Cheers again for the opinions.

yer theres only so far you can push dealers, as somone else said yer it is the end of the month, but there isnt the margin in cars that you'd think, some barely make 100 pound.

it sounds like a good deal though
