Because you are a polluting anti-green environment killer ........ or so they say.

If it makes you want a cheaper car then it has succeeded in its aim ..... if not then they will increase it until it does I guess?

I know, what I was initially thinking... Was watching a news article and they were interviewing people who were genuinely surprised that their road tax was to increase. Do these people live in caves or something and only surface every few months

if they want to change our habits then why not play fair and levy the tax on new cars???????????? the uk is only responsible for less than 1% of the worlds co2, yet we are being forced to pay the highest taxes. i dont think we live in caves but are having the wool pulled over our eyes. and ripped off.........

So am I right in thinking that I could drive a V12 Ferrari registered before 2001 and pay less tax than a 2.0 Mondeo registered in 2002.. hahaha

this must also mean that older cars will be more desirable such as the Impreza classics

The prices of Impreza Classics from the year 2000 (the very best Impreza there has ever been) have rocketed up.

The 2001 onwards bugeye (the ugliest and least desireable Impreza) has seen its value drop to the floor.

It is skewing the used car market big time!

It is a fair tax on NEW cars. Band G was added in the 2006 budget and applies to cars newly registered after 23 March 2006. From your opening post you claim to have an 07, I'll say it again, don't you keep abreast of current affairs?

All well and good with your global warming facts, but I'd say the real reason behind this is not global warming, but a drive for us to drive more efficient cars. Thereby, weaning us off a dependency on a finite resource from unstable regimes.

Nobody pulled the wool over your eyes as the law was in place (if not the knowledge of it) before you purchased your car.

I had to pay £400 for an 06 wrx when I bought in three months ago!
Didn't put me off buying the car at all.
There's no way the gov is gonna put me off buying the car I WANT! Thieves!

I think if you start worrying about the tax then maybe a Scooby isn't for you.
I initially was looking into an Evo 8 260, but was worried about the running/servicing costs, hence that wasn't the car for me.

When your car is worth £1500 and the car tax each year is £450 you will have a car that is worth the price of its parts.

The tax increases are on anything from March 2001 onwards and NOBODY knew this would happen back in 2001, regardless of what some may say!!

You have a point, although I keep myself reasonably informed on current affairs and didn't realise my car would fall into band G until early 2007.

It's not a fair tax for anyone to be honest though, even for people wishing to buy performance cars now. Hopefully we will eventually see the light and introduce toll roads which is the fairest system available. I mean why should I pay more than someone who does 20,000 miles a year when i do 8k, although admittedly in a slightly more polluting car, they are making more C02 and using more petrol than me.

It's absolute bollocks taxing newer cars higher. New cars are supposed to be more fuel efficient etc etc and doing this is just a stealth Tax.

Problem is that we just sit back and let Gordon 'Taxman' Brown give it to us. What this country needs are some really good riots to shake things up. Same thing is happening with fuel prices.

As far as I am concerned Road Tax should be in relation to the milage you cover not the size of your bloody engine or Co2. If I cover 6k miles a year why should I pay £400 in road tax compared to some sales rep that is doing 40k in a 1.8 and only paying £180. He/She is doing more damage to the roads etc so surely that is what we pay our road tax for

ditto "stealth tax"

same old Labour overspending

It's directly pitched at people who have a bit of spare cash and fancy something nice (and new) to drive... rather than an oil burner or 10 year old heap. (no offence to classics)

They'll get us all in dirty old diesels, then change the rules and fok us over again... does anyone remember when deisel was half the price of petrol? (less refining required was the excuse) now it's more than standard UL.

Am sorry to say the same again but pay attention .... you can't really blame anyone for being unaware of whats going on as it's been discussed heavily for nearly 6 months now .... on here. .... on telly .... on radio ... on cave walls.

Don't mean it's right though does it !

Heard a quote on the radio today on the drive in to work taken from the Daily Mail ( a paper I'd never read let alone buy) and for once I agree with something they've said .... be it easy to say cause it's never going to happen:

I'm paraphrasing but
"When will an MP actually just tell the truth, don't call it a green tax, explain that you need to raise funds and the way you feel is the most appropriate and easily accessable is RFL and fuel duty and then voters can make a judgement as to whether they agree with your policy rather than the fact the government is lying again."

as I said I hate to agree with the mail for once but .....
