i heard of it briefly a while ago but got told more about it today when getting a tyre fixed.
the theoretical benifits are that, as nitrogen is lighter, it reduces tyre wear, and improves fuel economy (ever so slightly i would guess) and if the tyres are lighter they may be able to spin just a bit faster but i would guess such a small amount that you wouldnt notice it. The downside is you need to get it topped up once a month ,but only costs a few quid.

Interesting read here: The Straight Dope: Is it better to fill your tires with nitrogen instead of air?
Seems the benefits are limited really; but if it's cheap enough, it can't hurt

As said the atmosphere is mostly Nitrogen anyway, bottle stuff lacks the trace elements that make up the rest of the air we breath (CO2, Oxygen and some other tiny amounts of the rest of the gasses from the periodic table and water vapour). It is more stable and tyre pressure will be more consistant as the tyres heat up. Good for a formula 1 car or other extreme sports but I doubt it is not worth it for the road...

Right i have used nitrogen in my tires for a few months now. i am running in new tyres and it does improve admitedly only a slight amount, but yes the gas doesnt expand the tyres so you dont pump them to normall air pressure but to the actual pressure u want to run on. this can take alot of trial and error, the bennifits are worth it as it should be free to fill your tyres with nitrogen, i went to tyre pros and they filled my tires up at no cost, and they adjusted the pressure as i saw fitt. which was great customer service.

i remember renton from redline done this once for a track day to help the tyres,,,, he seemed to think that it wasnt worth it though im not 100% why
i can see the reason though,,, tyres stay cooler, keep stable temps meaning that the presures stay consistant rather than lowering the presures to 25psi if a hard wearing track like the ring ( yes i said track ) or 28psi for somewhere less agressive like bedford
