Default Noise Testing

Chaps...

Need to get my car noise tested prior to booking an airfield/track day. Where can this get done? Problem is they test you on the day (fair enough) but I am not willing to part with cash to get declined a days racing due to being a few decibels over when I could sort it by changing whatever I need to on the car prior to turning up.

I am currently running a STI7 with a full H&S 2.5" decat straight through from the turbo. 3.5" scoobysport design backbox.

Where can I get a noise test done in the Herts/North London area?

Cheers

The track should be able to test it for you beforehand.

Some exhaust specialists may also have noise testing equipment

as sugested its not as simple as doing this or that, each track has its own limits and methds of testing.

best bet ring the track your thinking of going to and ask them, then go from there

I guess I would need to have both tested. Issue is that - if I pay to book a day out and get tested on the day and there is an issue, it could potentially end up in a waste of cash if I cant quieten the system down.

Abingdon for example do both...

ring and ask how they test before you book, booking office will know how, if tracks not a million miles away ask if you can pop down for them to do a quick test

Good idea... most tracks are approx 40 miles from me however but would be happy to travel prior to make sure I get the most out of the day.

Does anyone have any figures from their cars being noise tested as a comparison?

You deffo need to confirm they're method.

I know that Donnington is drive by and it's at the bridge by the pits whereas Castle Combe is static i.e. once you've passed the noise test bloke on the way to the holding area on track, your away.

Bedford will test FOC if you give them a ring. One of the stricter circuits for noise (101 db static, 87 db moving 3/4 revs).
They'll do a static and if its a bit close then its a ride on a bit of circuit to get picked up on two sound mikes.
I did 95 db on static and 82/85 db on the runs, so I am welcome to spend my money with them
I've got a 3" decat, but having the std air box saved any further noise taking me over the limits.

pmsl, not eveyones taste but i didn't want the normal subaru graphics and i love it, its a rep of a 99wrc car, Team Spike

although front end is a bit different now

i've only been pulled twice tbh and was driving like a tit at the time to be fair to the plod, didn't get done either time though.

its become very much a weekend car so might be a few weeks between outings as it were, out in it sunday nights sometimes.

As mentioned, varies at places.

Scooby Shootout last year, my car was 103db with the bung in, Nur Spec R.

This year, it was 96db, with the bung out.

I'd almost forgotten about that.

This just goes to show what a lark noise testing is.

Sure does.

Couple of years ago, my mates car was 118db with the bung out at Elvington, Nur Spec and Revolution downpipe just like mine, only difference was his had a ported exhaust manifold.

You can make it as loud as concord taking off, or even a nuclear explosion, if you rev it enough with the probe far enough in the tail pipe...
