My STi's battery died this weekend
I haven't had to buy a battery in many years, so maybe I'm living in the past
WTF...£80 (equivalent) for what was listed as a Panasonic 'economy' battery (correct rating and amp hour before the ***** jump on-board).
Some were over £300....
Is it just here or are car batteries expensive everywhere?

 

i just bought a new battery £90

guy told me it was due to price of the lead in the battery thats pushed the price up

 

I got one from Halfords couple of months back, think it was £90 or £95.

 

Got one last year from ATS, all fittied cost £65 (Bosch). This was for a 05 STI Impreza, not sure if the price differs from model to model or the year for that matter.

 

Jesus! I thought shelling out 35 quid from Plunketts was bad!

 

If you're in the AA, try ATS as they were doing 25% discount....

I bought a Halfords calcium for my old STi quite a while back, about £70 I think.

its true the price of lead due to the yellow guys in the far east buying all the metal up means they have gone up in price,,,,, ALOT

bosch have issued new part numbers to batteries to help hide the increase

but batts are now doubled in price over the last 18 months !!!!

 

I had to get a battery for my Impreza and it cost me £65 all in for a Bosch Silver.... . Well I did get it at the company I used to work for

 

70m to 100 quid wherever you go dependant on make and size . wouldnt buy anything cheaper as they are normally pants

 

Halfords calcium jobbie, HCB005 I think, £82 (or £60 if you know someone with a trade card) includes a 4 year warranty

 

scrap yard £7 works like a treat worth checking before you go spend £80+ on a new one!

 

just bought one for mine 2 weeks ago paid 52 quid for it thought that was dear but its got a 3 year warranty on it so its not too bad i suppose.

 

bought a varta one 6 mths ago, £75 3 yr warranty

 

Paid £45 for one last week, not a big named brand but a 3 yrs warrenty on it.

I don't think I would buy a battery from a Scrappie!!

My battery is original, 8 1/2 years and 87,000 miles ........ if a new one cost me £80 and did the same thats only £10 a year - hardly a Kings Ransom?

 

I see your point but why pay £80 when you could maybe pay just £7 at the scrappie if they have one in? Whats to say the battery from there wont last a long time its not like the cars go to the scrap yard if its just the battery gone dead. Most batterys there will be working order after a charge and there are loads to choose from

 

Fair point ........ you could get lucky and the battery is quite new before the need to scrap and at £7, well, worth a punt I guess? It's just that £80 isn't that bad for what may be 10 years of service.

 

Both my Subaru's needed a new battery before their fifth birthdays...

I do seem to have been given a car which doesn't wear out

 

Any ideas as to what ah a 2003 sti type uk battery should be using? Are all impreza batteries the same or would an sti be higher? Ideally i'm after sti oe spec. As think the local garage has fitted incorrect battery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yer lucky ****! Mine's 3 anna bit years old (56 plate Hawkeye) and its slow as **** to turn over.

 

Bosch silver top, (long life 5years) £62 + VAt euro car parts, well worth it

 

model# BOS6DA.
This is for a Bosch battery, other codes on battery are:-
005/008 (6DA).

This was fitted in July 07 though, but I would have thought the same battery is about, from ATS aswell.

 

Lead pricing has gone through the roof. My airgun ammo used to be 2p a pellet, now its 8p.
