american to uk bhp?
whats the difference between the two?
i've been told the bhp is calculated in such a way that it comes out much high than uk bhp, is this true? and if so whats the conversion factor between us and uk bhp?

Have fun: Horsepower - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
BHP = (Torque * Revs) / 5252
e.g
(200 * 6500) / 5252 = 247 BHP
or for a lower torque but higher revving motor
(150 * 8650) / 5252 = 247 BHP

You have metric horsepower to a DIN /SAE standard - which is referred to as PS generally.
Then you have good old fashioned BHP which we all talk about which is actually 0.98632 of a PS. or 550 ft-lbf/s (foot pounds force per second)
As Normal the UK and America are in the dark ages as we should really use PS.
Then you have 2 more Horsepower figures which are not commonly used these days. An electical HP (0.98592 PS) and a water HP (0.98586 PS)
There is nothing like the difference the american guy says though in all 4 horsepower variants. I can only think he is talking about the difference beween metric and Brake horsepower but has his figures wrong.

IMO it's just wheel horsepower VS flywheel mine made 280 whp at 4800 rpm, and this could be calculated to mean about 350 bhp at the flywheel.
Not many people put their engine on a dynamometer to get a true flywheel figure, hence the estimates from rolling roads, or a laptop on the road.
Most of them are probably just "*****-waving", mine's bigger than yours....
