I have just had an online quote from Directline which was quite favourable. However they insist on a tracking device. Has anyone got An RAC Trackstar or similar and what are the installation / annual / monthly costs. Looked on the website but all a bit new to me. Advice very much welcome....

Yorkie - I have an RAC Trackstar fitted in my MY99 Turbo. It cost 78 quid up front (which includes a guy coming out to fit the device at your chosen location) and now costs 23.50 per month for the next 3 years. It is monitored 24 hours a day by GPS so is a good deal IMHO ... the guy who fitted mine was top draw as well.

Have a look at www.ractrackstar.com for more information.

Cheers
Phil

PS Where in South Yorkshire are you, grew up near Worksop ...

I had similiar situation with insurance..

The RAC Trackstar offer is as Phil says and it the monitor 24hours and if triggered they ring you to chekc it is not you and in effect tell you it is being / has been stolen.

I assume the £10 a month version you talk about P1 is either one where you ring them to let them know it has been stolen.. no 24hour montioring. Or is before the current 36month interest free offer and you have to pay up front or something..

Looks a good offer... assunming you keep the car for 3years... not sure what happens if you sell it.. write it off.. etc..

The £23.50 is a 0% offfer that is being run by RAC Trackstar at the moment.

It includes the unit, fitting, Guardian monitoring and a lifetime subscription.

You pay a one off £78.00 deposit then 35 or 36 montly payments of £23.50

Sorted.

Check with Direct Line because they have specific trackers in mind when they give you their quote.

My tracker cost me £420 plus £99 per year and is proactive. They call me if someone so much as farts near my car. I think they will not cover you for theft if you do not have an 'approved' tracker and the RAC trackstar might not be approved. It has ot be 24 hours and proactive.
