Dealer won't sell me parts!
Hi
I'm in the process of fitting some 2-pot rear brakes to my my99 uk impreza but the callipers i bought off a my99 type-r didn't come with any pad retaining pins and it seems this is a main dealer only type item so i phoned my local main dealer who couldn't even look up the part without a chassis number/registration number which i could only give my own which was obviously no good!
He went on to say they couldn't sell them to me without a chassis number or registration number as it's a safety-related item!
Is this reasonable? Has anyone a chassis number/registration number to lend me? Or do i go out trawling around the car parks looking suspicious?
In frustration

Mines a UK and I still have to take the full chassis number in to my local main stealer.
Useless *******.
There another dealer about 40 miles away who's bang on. He almost knows what you want when he picks the phone up!
He saved me £128 last month on parts that the local muppets said I needed. I rang him and he sorted me out with what I needed for £15.

Have you tried AS Performance - Rally Motorsport Specialists or Graham Goode Racing - Home of Performance Specialism list them on their web site.
Also they're identical to the new age rear 2 pot brake pad hardware. (non-brembo)

Thanks for all the replies.
In the end i went through my local subaru specialist who gets their parts from a different dealer - one that's helpful!
In fact they described my local dealer as useful as a chocolate teapot!
Thanks again

I had exactly the same problem with my local dealer except I was after a pin for MY05 4 pots and I drive an import which they would not even work on if it needed it
After alot of fuss the fella at the dealers called up a part which he did not even know if it was the right one but told me it was £10.50 +VAT and it would take them 3 weeks to get
I posted on here and someone advised I call Alyn at AS Performance, I did and told him what I needed, he knew exactly what I was talking about and sent me on on next day delivery to the Isle of Man for the huge total sum of a fiver. Top guy and top service

subaru dealers wont even service an import the retainin clips are the same on uk and imports so phone the dealer or go to the dealer and show them wot you are looking for they do not need a chassis or reg number, i used to work for a main dealer in the parts dept and your scooby dealer is chattin out of you no where

yes subaru dealers do service imports and a chassis no. takes a lot of the guesswork out of the equation especially if your phoning up.
if a dealer orders something under £25 and it's wrong they can't send it back so your not going to want it as it's wrong the dealer has to keep hold of it which means they might not be able to sell it on if it's an obscure part so they have basically spent money they can't get back. thats not good business sense hence the need for the chassis no. when ordering parts.

You see, basically, if the car had the orginal brakes....you plonk the chassis number into the computer and up pops all the relevent part numbers correct for the car - instantly.
The other way is to sift through the whole catalogue CD....and no parts dept guy has ever been trained to do that. And even if he does manage it - sods law its a cross over year, therfore one part has been superceeded and won't fit or its on a huge back order. Silly as it seems, 1000s of parts on a car can change from one year to next...even if the two cars look identical. Chassis number gaurantees the dealer gets the right part for the car.....that is, until bits gets swapped with parts off newer models
