That's "no frills" servicing, but the poor old customer's got nowhere to sit now, so he's just having to stand around playing pocket billiards behind the mechanic's back.

We wouldn't dare use an alloy chair with plastic trim. We ONLY use wood and real leather...

BMC / British Leyland / Austin Rover used to service rally Minis that way back in the 60's.
YES, I am that old - before you all start.
Then back in the 70's an Escort rallyist named Chris Sclater went into a bog on the Circuit of lreland and he enlisted the help of spectators to roll the car over and over sideways to get it out of the bog. As the bog was soft damage to the car was minimal.
Everyone got good and muddy and the car didn't smell too great ever after.
