Legacy GTB Windscreen
#1
Does anyone know where you can get Subaru grey import windscreens? Unfortunately GTB's have bronze glass as opposed to blue/green, and Autoglass are quoting a price of £1400 to import one from Japan, so I'm in a panic...

Try finding someone, or use a frend in the trade, who can contact Subaru UK pretending they need a screen for a UK car! You will need to do some homework - checking if they are the same size etc but it might work. My mechanic did this for some parts for my my99 GTB as he new the bits were common for the impreza. Saved a lot of time and hassel.
You could ty other companies - I have heard that Autoglass are expensive. Could you waite for a whil and import one yourself???
Please tell me how you get on, as I have some cracks in my screen and my insurance company will only cover the first £450 (what a scam)
Good Luck

THE ONLY PROB WITH THIS IS THAT UK CARS HAVE A BLUE OR GREEN TINT IMPORTS HAVE BRONZES SO TALKING TO SUBARU UK WILL NOT HELP
PLEASE SEND ME YOUR VIN AND MODEL NUMBER AND I WILL HAVE A PHONE ROUND FOR YOU

park lane usually carry stock - at a price :-)
also try david hendrys
other possible sources include grade-a subaru breakers in hayfield
and prodrive (as they have some fleet cars I believe)
some GT-Bs were sold through the IM dealer network recently (again ex company cars of various IM staff) - thus I would nto be surprised if there were some screens in the dealer network somewhere - you need to find a friendly dealer who will browse the parts catalogue for you and phone around.
good hunting - maybe you would like to let the legacyb4 group on yahoo groups know how you get on as some of us might like to keep your notes for reference.
cheers,
Paul Webber

This is the major problem with many GT-B parts, mine was written off after a journey into a ditch because of the cost of parts from Japan despite the body shop trawling the country.
You could try Prodrive but in my experience they have had to import them at a premium, so you will also get charged that premium. Your best bet is to find a good breaker and see if they have a windscreen for you.
Other examples of parts costs quoted to my insurance co just for info-
Suspension struts - £1200 each
Radiator - £850 (not a standard Legacy rad)
Steering racks - £1850 (not a standard Legacy rack)
Gas discharge headlamps - £450 each
Take care of it repairs, can be a nightmare
