What could I swap my Scooby for ?
If the misses gets pregnant the car will have to go obviously due to the current running costs and me being more concerned with my family than my car..
However I would like to sell if purchase something else and have some money left over...
Any suggestions .. something big enough for a family but quick enough to keep me interested...
Its a My99 with 60k in fantastic unmodded condition.. P1 splitter, Pro drive wing and 17inch prodrive wheels ...
Looks and sounds fantastic ... maybe worth ... 5k ?? was offered 5.5 about 6 months about before the fuel shot up !

£5.5k for a classic... I would snap their arm off for that! That's a good price.
Recently sold my 2002 bugeye wrx, with 42k, fssh, service and MOT done in Jan with cambelt change, new brake pads etc etc
Had about 4k worth of mods, such as full afterburner exhaust, £900 Clifford Alarm, bodykit etc.
Didn't get any offers for it over £6k
In the end I let it got for £5.7k (although to a mate).
In this climate (sorry for using the cliche of increasing tax and fuel prices!) I would say that if you could get £5k for your classic, then sell it.
In terms of a replacement, I too would consider an Audi A4 1.8T Quattro sport.
For less than 3k can pick up a 2000 model, although with relatively high miles.
My friend has one and they are good reliable cars.

mine is a MY99 green with gold alloys and 53000 miles - paid £4500 for it 2 months ago. I still think they're worth more though so try for over £5000.
Would also recommend something with the VAG 1.8t engine e.g. Leon Cupra, Skoda Octavia etc

Pimmo, that's two threads in a few weeks where you have mentioned your missus and pregnancy.
Could there be a pattering of little feet in the not-too-distant future? Or is it wishful thinking?
What I'd suggest for now, is get rid of the Scoob, get a two seater sports car. It's not as if you'll have an excuse to get one for at least another 21 years or so. Enjoy that for 9 months and then swap it for a Focus.

good luck pimmo if you decide to sell. £5k for a classic in the current market is a lot, even for a low miler.
as you may have seen im trying to sell my scoob. same MY etc, and not even had a pm/email/phonecall of interest. this is with nearly new suspension an engine rebuild and a brand new gearbox thats at £3-3.5k too!
sorry but think £5k is optamistic, these things arent worth sh*t since fuel shot up... its horrible

Unless you're really hard up I'd keep it, my MY00 is great and I've got a 4 year old son.
How much will it cost you to change car and how long will it take you to recoup that money?

Can't see a 4 door saloon/wagon not being a practical family car. Try LPG if you want to cut running costs.
I can't believe any other comparable fast car for less than £5k will really be any cheaper to run. You're best bet would be look for a modern diesel. You can easily chip most of them to about 200hp. If you are wanting more then you could slap a nitrous kit on for not a lot of money and easily see 250bhp/300lb ft from most 1.9 diesels, retain stock reliability/driveability and 40+mpg

..... me and my missus were looking to get pregnant so I bought a suitable family car....
Hawkeye STI PPP ....
Now she is pregnant we've made sure the car seat fits in the back ... it does no problem .... made sure the boot fits a large pram and has room for all associated baby stuff .... thats a yes and yes ... isofix points..... yep .... airbags everywhere...yep ... solid and reliable with great brakes ... o yeah
.
..
Baby seats available in subaru blue .... thankfully !!!
the dog has to stay at home but when the baby grows this wont be a problem as the car seat wont need to be so big ....
all in all it IS a great family car . .. if in doubt get a wagon as said!

The only change i made when my missus was pregnant was Get rid of the MY04 Spec C and get a moded 344BHP Hawkeye STi.
Wee man is 7 weeks old now and loves it in the back. if i was getting rid i would prob look at getting a Forester.

Live a couple of miles from the Prom
Its a 2004 Sti with a different body on it basically
2.5l (265bhp stock,305bhp/320lb torque in mine,thanks to Mocom )
6spd
STi suspension
Brembos
18" wheels
Black Sti interior
Climate
Folding mirrors
HID's
Privacy glass
They started making them in 2004 for the JDM only.
Could cost you around £12k upwards
Have a look on Youtube for CH5 testing one at Ty Croes
Litchfield and Carplanet,Warrington(where I bought mine)sometimes have them in stock

Agree with the Forester suggestion, or even an Impreza Wagon - I have a bugeye and it's fine with 2 kids, room in the boot for their bikes etc. As long as the exhaust is standard/not too loud then it will be fine - I just drove the 4 of us from London to Aberdeen and back and it was great!

My missus got pregnant and I convinced her that we needed another 4 door car with a big boot, So we bought the Evo. Also bought a cheap car so that I can go to work and back and the missus can use to do the shopping in.
my missus never drives the evo that quick anyway so we never really put lots of petrol in, Id say we stick about £30 a week in the Evo, so its not really breaking the bank. Insurance is a bit more then most cars but then again id rather pay the extra dosh and have a car that I can enjoy and a car that can be used by the missus everyday, then resorting to a car that has the same room as a scoob/Evo and hate driving the thing, even if it is cheaper to run/insure.
