Default 04 STI PPP Ecutek remap

Hi,

I am thinking of having my 04 STI PPP remapped. I have bought an ECU that has an Ecutek Tek3 licence pre-installed.

Will i have to have my car keys programmed for the new ECU?

I am thinking of having a 3" turbo back exhaust fitted before having the ECU remapped.

Has anyone had thier PPP STI remapped with a 3" turbo back exhaust?

Is it worth having it done i.e. did it make a big difference to the powerband? what other mods would you recommend before the remap?

Also can anyone recommend a place that could remap the Ecutek ECU near London?

Thanks
Harry

Give Mocom Racing a ring M8. Sponsors of the ESC section on here. Zak does not use Ecutec for the mapping therefore the mapping costs are less.

Worth putting a free flow air filter in and maybe porting the headers at the same time as doing the exhaust. You already have a uprated fuel pump because of the PPP. Should make similar figures to mine.

I had mine mapped by Bob Rawle with just the PPP kit and an STI panel filter and got around 335/340

Not sure about the keys with a new ECU

I wouldn't bother with the exhaust to be honest, the PPP one is good for at least 350bhp. High flow panel filter, and some colder plugs (PRF7B's) should be just fine.
Have a chat to Bob Rawle, he should be able to remap your new ecu for slightly less, as it already a license and will be able to syncronise the ECU to your keys for a nominal fee.

3" is not needed at that state of tune, but helpful if you go further.

The keys don't need changing.

The cost of a ECUTek remap now you have the license will be about £150-£200, maybe less if you can find who mapped it previously and got them to do it again, as they have the key.

this ecu was previously mapped by Martyn at Alan Jeffery - Engine Tuner

he has only locked the map, not the software.

I bought the ecu from ebay member: trix5217

I have sent Bow Rawle an email. Did you own this ecu? i take it that the software has not been locked so i will not need the key to overwrite the old map?

Thankyou to everyone for the advice, i will post the results.

Trix is my wife.

It was removed from my car when I upgraded to SimTek, the software is not locked so can be accessed by any Ecutek mapped, it is the existing map that has been locked.

is it certain about not needing keys done? Is it a straight swap ecu then just needs mapping? As simple as that?

Bob Rawle will not be able to "see" the map as stored by Martyn so he will have to start from scatch.......not much in the way of money saving

But at least you will have one of my personal favourite mappers doing the job

once the ecu is installed using the laptop the key programming is easily sorted.

The gain is usually around 30~40bhp and similar torque.. also crisper and more throttle responsive, along with better mpg.

I am around 40miles from London

I emailed a few people, i think i may have sent you an email aswell nothing is 100% at the moment, all i know is i am on a tight budget as i am about to jump onto the property ladder at what is probably the worst time to do so

I will check if i have sent you an email, if i havn't you should receive one soon. 40 miles from London sounds good

True.

They'll just up a base map and tweak. So a little extra time and money, but not the original (license) cost.

jd5217

It's just that Gazthehat mentioned £150 for a re-map, it might be more given the time involved.

I agree there will be a saving but not as much as if you take it back to the original tuner...poor wording in my post, sorry.

Fair enough, but it should not matter which tuner it is taken to as it would need to be mapped from scratch unless runnning very similar mods.

Sell the ECU on mate and just get your existing ECU remapped. Sounds like you are spending unecessarily tbh.

Mocom Racing - Performance car and trackday products

Had my 53WRX and MY06 STi Spec D done at Mocoms and most recently a SimTek on my classic STi.

He has purchased the ecu for alot less than the Ecutek licence fee, normally most Ecutek first mapping sessions (inc licence) will cost about £500, therefore the cost of this ecu + mapping WILL NOT come to £500.

No need. That ECU has the license. If he maps his current one, the bill will be circa £650.

If he maps the new ECU that has a license, it shouldn't be more than £200.

No it will cost £110 (ECU) + 15 P&P + fitting + EcuTek subsequent remap £352 (inc VAT) .....So pretty much £500

Mocom Remap of existing ECU £450 inc VAT Job done

Money spent unecessarily IMHO. You are going to be flogging one of the surplus ECU's why bother fitting the EcuTek one ?

Hold up mocom boy. Where'd you get £352 for subsequent remaps? That's well pricey.

£110 ecu, £8 next day courier. £118.

Remaps are about £150 if you hold the license. If they need to unlock it first, ie. upload a base map, then about an hours labour, which would be about £50. So make that £200.

Making it £318, versus £650 for an Ecutek including license.

Sure, you can opt for a different (open source) remap if you want, but i'm not starting that kind of thread.

mocom boy where did that come from ?

ECU and P&P

Subaru Impreza 2004 STI (uk) Ecutek ECU on eBay, also, Subaru, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 04-Jun-08 14:55:26 BST)

As mention JGM EcuTek map...

Subaru Impreza 2004 STI (uk) Ecutek ECU on eBay, also, Subaru, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 04-Jun-08 14:55:26 BST)

I don't care what software is used, ends up good regardless, just providing a balanced view based on cost.

Just every post you've posted in this thread says to get over to Mocom.

Some people are quick to post where they had work done, without having work done elsewhere and subsequently having nothing to compare to.

The guy has bought a ECU with a ECUTek license on it. Why would he then want to go and get a different style remap for more money.

Slap me around if the wine has blurred my vision.
