Default THOUGHTS ON AIR FILTERS

just wondering what u guys are running filter wise?
i have an MY00 uk turbo
need a new filter/induction kit
what does everyone reckon is the best to have??
i am looking at the panel filter route possibly K and N, GREEN or pipercross as they can be picked up for around the £30-35 notes mark rather than go down the induction kit route??
i will be getting a catback exhaust in near future then get an ECUTEK remap at alan jefferies in plymouth
what everyones thoughts on whats best??

decent panel filter is the route to go down in my opinion, not sure which is best just make sure it is a dry type as the oiled ones can cause the maf to fail (well according to some people on here anyway)

sti one or green mate. Dont get an induction kit unless you get front mount. Panel filter is the way forward

While I'm here can the paper filters be cleaned and reused or is a new one needed? Have some high pressure air lines at work. I have recently purchased a new replacement.

induction kits on the 99 - 00 can cause more trouble than good. I opted for a panel filter and it is spot on.

Another vote for the green cotton panel filter. It's what I use on MY00 T2000 and had no problems at all with it.

If power will not exceed 350 bhp or thereabouts stay with the pannel filter.
There is nothing wrong with the O/E Subaru item but it needs throwing away every service/9k mls but it is relatively cheap.
The STi filter has the best filtration of any filter I have tried but consequently it is marginally restrictive. It is disposable every 9k mls and also expensive.
On a car I am keeping I would go for a K+N simply because it can be cleaned and reused numerous times. It comes pre oiled and this is not a problem. For a K+N oiled filter to cause a problem you would have to grossly over oil it.
Any manufacturer that claims that their pannel filter adds 5bhp or more is telling lies.
I did tests on four random pannel filters on a car around 335 bhp and the tests were repeated next day as the results were not what I expected. The spread between four pannel filters including the O/E Subaru was less than 2 bhp.

I dont think I would use anything other than the STI panel filter...

Not that you see it much but its also one of the best looking filters too

they need changing mate and i would certainly not entertain giving it a blast with high pressure air.it might get the crap out but will also put fine holes in the paper reducing the filtering capability of it.

I've a K&N panel filter on mine, i've have had no problems with it and you can hear the car 'breath' sometimes now too
I had it put on at the same time as my cat-back exhaust, why not wait and do them both at the same time?
