Default Gearbox oil leak.....where from ?????

People, i would really appreciate some assistance as my car is loosing what i believe to be Gearbox fluid rather rapidly.

I have cleaned the underneath of the car and i'm certain it's not leakign fro mthe sump, and the top half of the block is bone dry.

The engine Oil level is fine and has been for all of the journeys.
The gearbox oil level is dropping.

When the car idles on the drive and in and out of the garage it doesnt leak.
When the cars been driven for a 10 minute journey it leaks (quite heavily)

With the car jacked up at the front it doesnt leak.
When the car is on the level, jacked up and standard, it leaks. (oil doesnt run to the back of the gearbox)

But where can it leak from on the gearbox please ???? i cant see anything too clearly at all but it is loosing it.

It's also getting on my wrapped headers & downpipe slightly and smoking under the bonnet

Any suggestions or past experience is greatly recieved.

Thanks
Chris.

if there is excessive crankcase pressure then oil would be forced out,but that would be engine and not gearbox.

is it definatly gearbox oil leaking?

looking at the pics it seems oil is all over the underside,so i would give it a steam clean to remove it then give it a blast and see if you can trace leak any easier.

gearbox oil has a strong smell compared to engine oil is that not a way to see what oil is leaking?

hmmm nice sounds like an engine out job to sort the breather plate ?????

Yes it does smell the oil and i'm certain it's gearbox oil, just now where from ???

ok so i cleaned it all up underneath with some spray de greaser and then jet washed it, spotless and very nice and dry after standing ticking over for a few minutes.

I took it out for a spin and immediately it was pouring out at quite a rate.....so i snapped some pics sharpish.

the leak is from the centre of the box, between the engine and the sump plug. The engine & the drain plug are bone dry, but the area with the pipes underneath is where all of the oil is collecting.

It does appear to run down the box though to the point where it drips....

Dry areas....

Affected area.....

Thats a bad leak - if as you say in the original thread that the gearbox oil leval is dropping, then its probablly the gearbox Input Shaft oil seal leaking.
This is sometime's caused by the spigot/pilot bearing in the flywheel being shot/collapsed(easy to change while the box is out) allowing excessive movement in the input shaft and damaging the seal on the shaft.

I had that on my classic turbo 2000 (Not seen pictures or vids you posted up as work PC wont allow them) and it was the rear drive shaft oil seal leaking. It cost me £5 from subaru for a new one then fitting by a mate. It went just after i had the clutch done so was probably dmaged then.

and the oil was all over the flywheel & clutch & housing.

The starter moter was also v oily. and you can see from the pictures where it's running down and out of the bottom of the box onto below.

Starter

Clutch

Gearbox

excuse my ignorance, but what will need new seals (while its apart what should i renew) and where is the best and quickest place to source them ???

Thanks
Chris.
