Impreza as second car?

Impreza as second car?
I couldn't begin to think about affording fuel in my WRX day to day, with a 70 mile round trip to work I'm looking at 350 miles a week, and 1400 a month - just for work.
So, I use a beat up old Citroen for day to day running an cheap diesel costs. I can drive to and from work for a week on around £35, which equates to 10p a mile.
How many of you drive your cars long distances daily - and more importantly are you made of money?!

Sorry chaps, but my daily shed beats allcomers. She's a partially rusty Rover 1994 Rover 216GLi! and handles the 120 mile a day commute wonderfully and delivers over 40 mpg!
The only downside is that she has highlight my crap driving ability - I can get her through the local twisties quicker than the scoob .
106k miles and still going on the infamous Rover K series! Scoob does the commute once a week if the weather is nice and gets blasted at the weekends (note earlier comment on driving skills - replace 'blasted' with pootled around')

I do 100 miles per day, so use a mapped Fabia vRS for the commute. The wifey uses the STi every other day and i bring it in once a week/fortnight or a drive at the w/end.
The fabia costs me about £45 a week in fuel. The STi i reckon would be about £130.

I've got a push bike for the daily commute saves me £55 a week in car parking and tube fares. That pays for a tank of laughing gas for the Scooby at a weekend

Fuel prices are going only one way......Up.
If we all think its bad now, wait til the end of the year.
Still on the upside, second hand prices of big engined/thirsty cars will bomb and so time to pick up a performance bargain!!

I have a V reg Fiat Punto Sporting (!) that I use for work and for crap weather. The STI only comes out of the garage on dry days. I do occasionally use it for work, but only if the weather forecast is very good!
I thought about getting a runabout for some months, but worried that it could be a mistake as I've never run an old car before... I eventually got the Punto cheap as it needed a bit of work to pass its MOT. I did the work and haven't had to touch it since (nearly a year ago). All-in-all, I've been very pleased with the decision, and the rocketing fuel prices only serve to reinforce the impression that it was worthwhile.

Mine is my work car 3 miles there, 3 miles back
Full tank lasts me almost 2 weeks,
Apart from this month as I went to the scooby shootout and dodged around over the bank hols...costing me £127 and it needs filling again
Worth every penny
