think they are pretty even considering that vid, taking into account both these drivers are track drivers and not loose surface, so i would say theres not much init.

To bad the lady cant drive it properly...
Notice how she almost completly stops to go around the bend on the course, while the evo drifts around without loosing momentum
if she was able to drive the p1 as it should be driven it would probably have been equal or the p1 might have won with a tad..
always hated that video for that little incident

I was going to say tiff is probably the better driver of the two
I'd say both about equal - evo maybe fractionaly faster, but as she says I think the impreza would win the beauty contest hands down

Ive owned a classic MY99 Impreza Uk Turbo (fair enough, its not a P1) and now own an Evo VI. Standard, they're probably very close in a straight line, and thats it. Throw a few bends into the mix, and the Evo is off leading the way, honest, trust me!! Plus the Evo looks much better in the flesh, a lot more purposefull and aggressive. And then you've got the tuneability differences between the two. Stage 1 mods on a P1 (full decat zorst, fuel pump, filter and ecutek), and your looking around 320'ish bhp/lbft; but seriously risking reliability. Highly likely for bottom end probs, and transmission issues. The same stage 1 mods on an Evo VI, looking at 360-380bhp/lbft, completely reliable aswell, maybe sacrificing the clutch a bit.
Up to you mate; but I know whihc one id be going for if I had the choice!!

a) There is no way a Std MY99 would even nearly keep up with an Evo 6 in a straight line. MY99 owner here and one of my best mates runs a std EVO 6 GSR which I've driven on several occasions! Modified MY99 that's a different issue; mine now comfortably pulls away!
b) P1s did suffer problems owing to the ECU not being set up for lower grade UK fuel as std, but remapped they're fine; they'll run 330bhp without issue! Many have taken them up to nearer 400 without issue. At that point the gearbox can be a concern with the kind of torque the car will most likely be developing.
Even a std UK My99 will run mid 300s without detriment to reliability if set up correctly, Mine run 320ish for two and a half years without issue and is now 340ish.

Having driven both, i found the evo easier to drive fast but boring after a while. Its just too easy. I prefered the raw feel of the p1, although i think any good classic sti type r takes the biscuit over both.

The Evo6 wins for me. One of the best looking rally slags available. Mean, wide and mean. Did i say mean?
The P1 is no ugly betty though.

Slower as they're a fair bit slower than a P1 due to their lardy nature ( however much people go on about the different torque curve / chassis/ blah blah). If behind one on track i used to have to feather my throttle, if in front I would pull away...
Nothing in it between evo 6 and P1 out of the box in performance terms, but the P1 understeers more on track - Still only *** paper between on somewhere like Donington and sometimes the extra compliance of the P1 suspension makes them quicker down typical UK B roads. P1 understeer can be sorted cheaply with rear ARB, ALK, drop links and then there is definitely nothing in it.

back in the day when they both came out, the evo 6 import was tested to 100 mph in 11.2 seconds, while it took the p1 12 dead

I'm sorry, but that's simply not accurate:

I meant, ive owned a Uk Turbo; but the P1 and Evo 6 in question should be similar in a sraight line, as others have stated on this thread. Yours should pull away, as its roughly around 60bhp more than his will be, with a similar weight. My old Scooby was a very similar spec to yours, running at 325/316, and I would say it is about the same as my Evo now. But the Evo has only stage 1 mods, and is only running 1.3bar, so can be about 370 with a simple remap.
Are P1's not notrious for doing the bottom end anywhere between 30-70k??!!v

sorry guys but a prime example of the scooby tinted specs.. i had an evo 4 that would **** all over a p1 any day of the week... much more agile cars in every way... i still drive scoobs though as i couldnt live with an evo as a daily car..but defo quicker in every respect and ive had loads of jap classic sti's and evos. more focused out of the crate by a long chalk..also as someone pointed out, these evo's are easy to get silly power cheaply as they already have the extras that us scooby drivers need to buy to get the power ! class cars.. i love them unlike the scooby diehards who wouldnt even admit that even if it were true !

Standard, and the standard bit is critical, P1s are renowned for dropping their bottom ends before 70k, yes, but this is nothing to do with the engine not being able to handle the power. It's the ECU set up which was not reconfigured for UK fuel (its basically an STi 5 ECU which was optimsed for 100RON). The P1 came out in 1999, 99RON fuel has only been readily available here for, what, a year or so? Before that SUL was 97RON or 98 if you hunted for Optimax. When you think of how they get driven, its testament to the strength of the engines that they last that long running on the wrong grade fuel! A properly remapped P1 will take the late 300s no problem! Even the non forged UK internals can do it.
