Il be 17 in august and hopefully will be getting a clio 1.4 52 reg what could i do to it to improve the acceleration and the handling any ideas please

that looks like the 2.0l to me,so acceleration should be good along with handling

 

noo its not mate its a 1.4 othewise it wouldnt need upgrading

 

Improve your skills and learn to drive up to a good standard. Not just the minimum standard needed to pass your driving test.

 

You only really start learning how to drive once youve past your test.

 

Dont bother upping the power because the insurance will go up quite a bit. I'd concentrate on handling,i would go for a nice set of 16" alloys and some coilovers. A car that handles well is more fun than one thats just quick in a straight line

 

I wouldn't bother. Just get as much experience as you can.

If you want to drive like a hooligan or practise driving at the limits, then track days and advanced driver training are the best ways.

It will be a waste of money making a slow car marginally quicker. The insurance will kill you. Just save the money you would put into it until you've got a couple of years NCB under your belt and a good few 10k's of miles.

Then you'll be able to spend that on a nicer drive with more poke.

Not the answer you're after, but one worth listening too.

It's very difficult to upgrade a car that is:-

1.4 16V Expression 3d Auto
0 to 60:- 12.5 s
Max Speed:- 112 mph
Power:- 98 bhp

I wouldn't pay £4k for it either..

If you want a small sporty hatch you should consider the Corsa SRi 1.8, they will do 0 to 60 in 8.0 seconds and are only insurance group 9.

Modifiying something like that Clio isn't worth the time, cost and effort

 

get some miles under your belt first mate then start playing with the car etc . first car is always gonna get battered and bruised anyways .

 

Word of advice, if you want a faster car, buy a faster car. Don't waste money on mods for a car that you will always want to change anyway. I know its hard but just keep it standard and save your money for the next car. Buying a 172 version would be much better than trying to tune the 1.4

 

its not probably what you want to hear but i agree with the other guys, i had an asthmatic first car and just as well, with so little performance you can't get into too much bother and now at 22 with a clean licence i've got a proper scooby, never bothered modifying the other one as people say just save your money and do your time till you can buy something much better.

 

If my lad was turning 17 I'd suggest a used new shape suzuki swift and then waiting a few years

my first car was a brown mk1 fiesta 1.1 pop with wide escort rims lol did me for a year before i could get something better . so id start off small and cheap for the first year and go from there . its probably not what u wanna hear but its the way it goes dude unless u have bags of cash lying about .

If I were you (which unfortunately I'm not, I'm wayyyy too old), I would maybe get a slightly smaller engined car and then use the ££ saved on the insurance to get some wheels etc. CCs make a big difference when you're young & no No Claims Bonus. Don't forget to tell the insurance company of any changes over standard you make & better still, ask before just in case they turn round and ask for extra premium

Consider taking further lessons (Pass+ ??) and go on an airfield track day or two - get the speed thing sorted in a "safer" environment.

Don't listen to mates who egg you on to see "what it'll do" as it's your car, life, licence & money, not theirs.

Same as all the above..A set of alloys always looks cool though,and think you could get alot better for your money than that clio..If you want a fast car,buy a fast car to start with,Until then just save your money.
