Default Have i killed my ECU? Seen this before?

Hi Lads,
About 3 weeks ago i decided to jet was under the bonnet paying attention not to get the alternator.

3 days later the battery was dead, Having put it on a tester we found that the battery was not charging and the tester was reading an alternator fault.

With needing to find a day off work when my mates garage had room for the car meant it would be a week or so until it could go down.

So i have been charging the battery every couple of days.

THEN

The car just died and lost all power at around 60mph. It would then not start so left if for 30mins and started back up and got me home.

This then started to happen a lot more untill now it will not run for more than a minute.

Is the ECU reading the battery is not charging and then shutting everything down to play it safe????

Any help welcome.

Cheers

Chris

The charge rate is controlled by the IC Regulator built into the Alternator.
If the battery voltage drops to around 9.5v and the alternator is not charging it back up,then you wont have enough power in the battery to run all the electrical loads demanded by the Ignition,Cooling Fans,ECU etc - this is probably why the engine is cutting out.
Make sure ALL your earth leads are tight/sound before writing off the alternator.

The alternator has now been sent off for test and possible recon.

The battery has been on a full 8 hour charge and then will only last 30 seconds running.

You then try and restart it and all it does is turn the engine over without fireing.

Take the battery lead off for 30 mins and it fires back back up for 30 seconds and then dies again.

Engine managment light also now on.

Thanks

Chris

Fuel Pump relay ??
Bad connection/corroded terminals on the harness under the back seat where they go through onto the pump ??
