Default Simtek Ecu upgrade on a MY99

From this thread

https://www.scoobynet.com/dealer-thi...-upgrades.html

I am thinking of going down this route to get rid of the weak MAF sensior on my UK MY99, Rather than highjack that thread I thought I would ask what other mods I should have before the Mapping in a different thread.

My car is standard apart from a full De-cat, and I don't want to chuck £££ at it because I don't £££ to chuck at it

So.... where should I start

right from someone else with a 99 classic. mines a uk model however, is yours?

right, remap... good idea. would recommend at least a fuel pump, like a walbro 255 lph one (ebay - around £70-80). then maybe a 3 port boost solenoid and a bigger turbo. this on my car would hit around 300-300 bhp/ft lb. on a wrx probably more.

Enough, but not enough to break things.

I want it reliable still.

If I had 2K would that cover your surgestions? (Inc mapping)

2K will cover it easily. As mentioned, fuel pump for about £80 ish quid, simtek (is that about 1k fitted and mapped?) 3 port solenoid isnt a necessity (some mappers prefer them some it doesnt matter sp speak with prefered mapper about that) they arent too dear anyway.
Second hand turbo say upto £300 again speak with your chosen mapper though, explain what you want and they can advise you what you need. Its always better imo to overspec, so if you want say 300bhp, dont go for a turbo that can give you that, go for one that can give you 320bhp if you see what I mean. Its always better to have headroom. So say that gives you £600 left from your 2k budget. Maybe do a bit of suspension work (whiteline) and think about better brakes as well

totally agree with the above. also, with that spare £600, use approx £150-200 of it to have antilag fitted into the map

differing opinions on them, but used as a fun thing with an on/off switch in the car.... loads of fun when sir chav-a-lot in their corsa chariot comes up your **** in the town centre with their (quote jeremy clarkson) "dum and barse" pounding

if i get a simtek on my car il be having some of the antilag dear boy

Chocolate_0_brain what turbo are you using as the power figures you quoted sound good for me.....

Also as the Simtek ecu is MAF less can I add an induction kit now and will it add a few ponys?

Oh oh and will this MAF less ecu sort the common hesitation problem with the MY99 I've read about and experienced a little bit?

havent got the foggiest, im not a mechanic sorry

my cars standard apart from a bailey dump valve replaced the oem re-circ one, and a 3" blitz nur spec-r decat.

with regards to an induction kit, a decent panel air filter will do just as good a job, plus the airbox itself seperates the cool and warm air, whereas an induction kit doesnt have this luxury.

theres a few you could choose from.

vf22
vf23
vf28
vf34
vf35
tdo5-16g
tdo4 hybrid

etc etc.

basically i would ring up some tuners/mappers like scoobyclinic, andy f., brdevelopments, jolly green monster etc etc and speak to them about your requirements. they can then advise you properly on what set up to go for.

as an example a decent vf22/3/8 turbo second hand is around £250-300... new i darent ask

why don't you contact David at API,
Welcome to the API website
Tell him what you want, how much you can spend and take it from there.
I had the 99-00 simtek fitted by API when it came out and it is excellent.

would a TD05 18g on stock internals
and with base mods so to speak be overkill?
I'm in the same boat as the OP and going to be spending a few ££'s to up the power.
Car is running same mods at chocolate atm oh plus an APS CAK, but have money set aside for FMIC, FPR, walbro, downpipe and Simtek/Hydra.
My only sticking point is do i replace the turbo whilst doing other bits
Was set on a td04 hybrid or an 16g, but then a friend recommended a FP18g
Sorry to hijack the thread

AFAIK, the TD turbos are stronger than VFs.

I haven't got a scoob at the moment but I've been thinking about my options.

I want a specific model (WRC Limited) but for the same money I could buy say an STI V4 and have 2 or even 3K for mods.

Personally, I want to run without a DV and I want anti-lag. I don't want a big turbo as I want as little lag as possible and not after big bhp (anything over 300 and the same torque and I'm happy) as I don't really drive that fast, I just want the noises

I think all the usuals (FMIC, pump, reg, breathing in and out) and one of these simtek jobs with a mild anti lag mostly for show. As I don't want a DV to get comp noises, I'd probably stick with a small TD05 turbo or TD04 hybrid.
