Says it all - import are generally better technical spec (and therefore more powerful), UK cars cheaper to insure. Let us know what you are after and your budget, planned model etc. and you'll get some more specific advice.

He can't as he's new

Like for like a JDM will be "better" due to more toys, more power & being easier to get power increases from. Advantage to the UK car is the warranty assuming under 3yrs old. Can't think of anything else in their favour

Insurance wise, I pay same if not less than my UK colleagues ...

If you want a newbie scooby owners p.o.v.
I opted for a UK model for various reasons.
A lot of the imports had incredibly low mileage,in fact unbelievabley low mileage and I couldn't understand why,the wonky numbers make you think, look at some of the dash close-ups on piston heads and see what you think....anybody that's seen a clocked dash will see what I mean.
My UK model has the digital dash and came with almost complete service history;whereas imports come with mileage verification which I'm sure couldn't be forged ...
Most had been minced around with performance upgrades abundent why do that if your not going to beat it,I wanted an unmolested model as much as possible.
Mines got elec' mirrors, elec' sunroof, elec' windows, cat 1 alarm and is in vgc allround...

Newage JDM STi's also have digital dashes, they are also low miles as people in japan dont drive as much as we do

Having owned a Newage JDM car, its just no contest, the car itself is just better than its uk counterpart, more power, more usable power should I say these things pull from as low as 1500 rpm all the way to the 8k redline
They have better engines and gearboxes, higher specc'd, and just nicer all round.
Go look at Wah's for sale in the for sale section, a lovely example of a well looked after MY03 JDM Twin Scroll turbo car

I was only adding my reasons for buying a UK model, the sunroof note was added as I didn't realise they all had them(do they?)which has been infered and when I went to look @ the very first one the seller told me it was uncommon,he also told me he'd seen 175mph.
What the poster will find on here is contradictions abounding,I like him posted on here b4 I bought(wise?) and was told that models wether UK or Jap of the same age would be almost indentical mechanically,is this not correct.

And lastly wtf is JDM... I take it it's the Jap import model....

I'd just like to add that I've come from an MPV to the scooby and I am well impressed, the more I drive it the more......
Just take your time buying if you're not sure walk away, there's alot of thrashed sheds out there I viewed plenty,I got a price drop of 33.3% on 1 from £3k-£2k only because the seal had gone on the header tank, yeah right and he's still got it....

It's not a myth £100 diffo for me,I know a popular specialist insurer on here charges the same wether it's UK or Jap but it's not the same across the board, look at some of the recentish post in ht insurance section.

..I'm pretty sure theres plenty of non-franchised specialists who focus on rebuilds for these 'superior imports',so can't imagine owning one for one minute might pose a problem

I agree with everyone else JDM all the way! , wasnt sure at first but so glad i bought JDM sti greater spec with more toys. Insurance can be a bit of a pain but there is not much difference if you search the net.

JDM is streets ahead of the UK car the only thing worth having on a uk car is a warranty which to be fair isnt worth the paper its written on anyway. All main dealers deal with import parts now if you ever need them. The newer cars will run happily without a remap (on v-power) as long as it is standard the turbos and general performance is much better on a JDM twin scroll

Its a no brainer really,id rather walk than buy a UK car

a lowly JDM car
