Default 335d beware!

Had a bit of a play and got well beaten. What makes me laugh is the numbers on the back of the car. What the *** is this thing? In 2 years time it will be 350d. Bmw just keep making their engines bigger and bigger. And what happened to Bmw philosopy of not turbo charging cars. How things have changed.

Not that I'm bitter or anything and think that all Bmw drivers are complete tossers.

It's still a 3.0...seems BMW have gone back to using non-sensical model numbers again (i.e 325 is now also a 3.0, 316 is a 1.8, 318 is a 2.0, 323d is a 2.0, 320 is a 2.2 )

And a man who doesn't w**k is not normal

It was obviously your mate I bumped into then. 560lbs wonder how long his gearbox and tires last.

And am I right in saying that BMW said that they would never turbocharge their cars. Kind of gone out of the window. So the 335d is really a 2.9 with not one but two turbos now? I wonder what a scooby would do with two turbos and a 2.9 capacity.

BTW you are excluded from the all Bmw drivers are tossers because you own a scooby.

All BMW diesels are turbo charged, in teh case of the 123d and the 335d - twin turbo diesel.

(well excpet the "really" old ones - that were never sold in the UK anyway - the Berlin wall still existed back then ).

It's their petrol engines that they never tubo'd (again, excepting the woefully laggy 2002). Until the 335.

So, we have

335d
and
335

Both twin turbo. Both 3.0. Both very fast, Just one is diesel.

Yep, 286bhp/426ftlbs, and it averages over 30mpg, closer to 40mpg on a run

It's only available in auto, because the manual box can't take the torque !

What is the world coming to a auto box that can't handle as much as a manual

Fair dos. He still must have been running a non-standard car as having read up on these their claimed 0-60mph is a rather sluggish 6.1 secs. I know 0-60s don't mean too much in the real world but they give an indication of a cars capability in terms of acceleration.

to me it isnt 0-60 that counts: its the 30-50 and 50-70 that are where it happens 'real world'
0-60 or traffic loight gp just toasts clutches

This guy left me like I wasn't there so I think it must have been modded in some way. And this did involve bends and standing starts. I did catch him on the bends though.

My humble Fabia vRS diesel only manages 0-60 in 9.3s, but since the remap with 312 torques I unofficially timed my 30-70 in-gear acceleration at about 5s, which is similar to what Prodrive quote for the STi PPP (03-05). From a standing start 2WD, especially FWD compromises me greatly, but once rolling the wave of torque feels as quick, if not quicker than my old WRX PPP. I'd love a 335D coupe, or an A5 3.0 TDi S-Line, tuned of course

why do people think Subarus are the fastest things on the road?! Yes they are quick but, as said...All the big engined/powered cars once rolling (normal driving conditions) are quite capable of giving you a run for your money! 0-60 or in the wet You can brag about if thats your thing but on UK roads you will be suprised by quite a lot of cars including dirty diesels!

I'm running a 300/300 modified wagon and yesterday we swapped my wife's Megane for a 07 plate 143bhp/266ftlbs diesel Mazda 6. Once on song the mazda gives almost as much of a kick in the back.

Might swap my Scooby for a company car next year and very tempted by the new 3.0 diesel A4 or the new diesel TT.

This is the point I made in another post - I run a 3.0 TDI Audi A5 and a STI (MY06) PPP. IN real world conditions there really is not that much in it - of course of the line there will be - and on an open road the two cars would soon sort it out between themselves (the Sti would win).

The audi is having a modest remap which will take it from 240 BHP / 500NM to 290 BHP / 600NM. ON a long drive at 70-80MPH the AUdi gives me 45 MPG whilst the Sti (under any type of driving gives me < 20 MPG).

They are of course two totally different cars with lots going for each. I just think the day that 200-300 HP was a big deal is well over. Even the audi has 4WD...

Interesting point you have made above. I have an MY05 STI PPP and an Integra Type R. A few weeks ago I picked the Type R up after a service and was driving back down the auto route (I live in France) and a prat in a Audi the same as your came screaming up behind me as I was joining another part of the auto route. Now I hate agressive drivers so I thought lets have a play. At this point he was nailed to my bumper so I dropped it down to third and floord it. I easily pulled out around 15-18 car lenghs on him and then I looked at the speedo and I was doing 120mph so I decided to pull over for fear of being pulled. He litterlly came creeping past me once he caught up, looked over at the car and put his thumb up.

As the STI is way quicker in a straight line than the Teg I strongly beleive he wouldn't have seen which way I went.

Nice cars those A5's.

MarkGT, I was on track recently in my Fabia (go on, laugh) against a mate who had an ITR, supercharged to 280bhp and running Tein EDFC coilovers. Over a 1 1/4 mile lap he couldn't pass me, and when I let him through he only edged away by 1-2 car lengths a lap. The owner of the car comes on here (white scooby - Simon) and I am sure wouldn't mind verifying my claims. I have 420Nm and only 2WD, so 500Nm with the drag of a 4WD system may level that playing field slightly, but only slightly. I suspect the Audi driver was either crap or not really trying.

I would never laugh at a Fabia very underated cars by badge snobs.

Lets face it, it doesn't take much skill to put your foot flat on the floor and hold on does it. It poses the question why he came screaming up behind me to get past then was left trailing behind and then came past very slow and put his thumb up. Very odd behaivior for somebody who wasn't trying! I'm not getting in to my car is faster than yours, it just the way it happend on the day.

By the way one or two car lengths a lap after ten laps is an iternity in racing terms.
