The owner of the car comes on here (white scooby - Simon) and I am sure wouldn't mind verifying my claims. I have 420Nm and only 2WD, so 500Nm with the drag of a 4WD system may level that playing field slightly, but only slightly. I suspect the Audi driver was either crap or not really trying.
i suspect that markgt actually understands the different characteristics of the two different engines, and used his, wait for it, GEARBOX to take advantage of the high power at high rpm delivery of his engine, compared to the low RPM torque of any diesel engine...............how would it sound if someone said that the 6000rpm performance of your car was terrible compared to an ITC, wouldn't be fair really would it as your engine would not rev to 6000rpm, so there we have the different characteristics, diesels are good at what they do, petrols are good at what they do, you cannot compare them like for like.

No, a Subaru is a small to medium sized family saloon car. The Subaru rally car shares the engine block, and only the cast block, and the outer shell before substantial modification and strengthening. Having done the Prodrive tour, trust me, your road car has almost nothing to do with a real rally car.

i'm sorry i assumed you were comparing it to similar cars. and in which case you are indeed correct, the fastest thing on the road (assuming you mean road legal, and a car) is a Weineck Cobra 780CUI,

and just out of interest, the fastest 4door saloon is a, wait for it.....................................

Subaru Impreza Litchfield Type 25

well well, who'd have thought.

he is right you know WRC is limited to 300bhp, the modifactions are for strength and handling. it accelerates at about the same rate as 400bhp tuned scoob. but with a much lower top speed.

Hmm, so a derestricted 209mph M5 is slower than a 175mph Scooby. And what about the Bentley Flying Spur at 195mph The T25 is a tuned car, so that opens up a whole can of worms. Tuned RS4/6's pushing over 600bhp in 4 or 5 door form, reliably, and in comfort. Mercedes CLK DTM AMG cracks 199mph.

I don't constantly slag Scoobs, I love them, used to own one and would have another like a shot if I could justify the expense and spare the time to enjoy it. What I don't do however, is make out they're the best car on the road. They are pretty much the best at what they do for the money, but remove that restriction and they can be bettered, substantially, and in every area.

Does it heck as like.... I would rather have a WRC scoob engine than a 400bhp tuned scoob engine any day of the week.

Not come across a 335d yet so can't comment, but the brace of 335i's I have haven't been that quick..

How does the 335i compare to the 335d..?

IMHO, none of this comparison stuff matters, but how much do these 335's cost..!?

They cost a lot, and the 335d is fast in a straight line. Remaps get 330 odd bhp over the 282 bhp.
Thinking of one to replace my Scoob...............

*runs out of door!....*

tbh i hate bms with a passion they r way to refined for me but its the potential the car has, twin turbo just wait to see wat the aftermarket will have to offer in a few years. ithink a lot of peeps will start buying because of its potential.

Indeed, it is also attractive because you dont have to go the pumps every 5 minutes!

Meanwhile, over on BMWLand under the thread title "Anyone owned a subaru?", we have:

if ya can put up with the god awfull naff cheapo plastic interior in a subaru ya can put up wiv anything..like summat out of an escort cossy that precedes it by a decade or more..

far east cars absolute garbage interiors..
The Gold Wheels (Impreza ?) - the biggest design disaster full stop. Whoever thought of that needs incarcerating for their own safety. Makes me wince every time I see it

In general BMWs lovely to look at - Subarus complete eyesores !
...and my personal favourite...

Impretzas are ugly and most are driven by ******** who like to drive round with the exhaust booming and the stereo on full. I wouldnt be seen dead in one! A reliant robin has more class. Look were they are on the top gear coolwall.

Shame a few tossers mess it up for everyone else!

Muppets, they only act like that cause they get whipped every half hour on the road!

Christ how old are they?

Seems like they are the average tarted up e30/e36 shed driver or members of the e46 4pot brigade (debadged, of course)
