Strange whining noise on boost!!!
Hey guys!
My hawkeye STI has just developed a very strange noise when the turbo spools up. Sounds like a kind of wailing noise.
Any ideas what it could be??? Car still boosts ok, no fault lights. perhaps a leaking re-circ valve or hose???
Amy suggestions welcome!
Thanks

This is definately not normal! I've had the car for 2 months and had 2 P1's before and never heard this sound.
Gonna get it booked in to subaru to check it out.

Mate, MY07 STi changed its tone when the turbo started to spool up when I got 4-5K miles on the clock, its normal and put it down to everything easing up due to the low mileage.

Dario, I had the same with mine.
Got it checked out, nothing detected.
Then bang, Turbo went!
What was happening was, bits of the Cat in the up pipe were being sucked into the Turbo.
THat was the whining sound the air passing through the Cat (It's a bit like a honeycomb).
When I took my foot off the Fun Pedal thats when the bits were being sucked back into the Blower.
I had an STI Decatted Up Pipe fitted, never loked back.
The Independent Scooby Garage that looks after mine said in 16 years working with Scoobs, he had never come accross anything like it.
Good Luck.

Thanks for that Alan. I've got a blitz fitted to mine but still have the cat in place. Will have to get it checked out asap. Might void the warranty if the turbo goes bang with the Blitz on.
Cheers!
