Went to the Sheffield Ski Village on Saturday, and when leaving there were no fewer than 3 Sport's in the Car Park (I've seen loads of scoobies at the Scottish ski centres too - it's that "lifestyle" thing again maybe... ).

My lass was asking how I could tell they were not Turbo's, and I was just telling her to look for the scoop when a Nova pulled in displaying the scooby scoop to perfection... Now, is it me, or is a scoop on the wrong car the saddest thing in the world? Why does he need to keep his cam cover cool? And did he pay for that scoop...

Steve

Markus - the word "Sport" on the boot was a giveaway too, unless all three were going for the *total* Q-car effect

GT & GP - I'm not being snobby, you've got to admin most hot hatches have this sort of add-on for show only. Genuinely uprated cars like yours sounds are pretty rare in the great scheme of things.

Cheers,

S

Steve,

You have to bear in mind that you can buy a stick-on Scooby scoop from the like of Halfords from as little as £19.99!!!

And yes it is the one of the saddest things in the world!!!

Cheers
Andy

Be carefull......

My mate has a Toyota Corrola GTI, it started life as a 1.6 16v but now it has.

1.8, Super Charger, Motec ECU, custom intercooler and radiator. 205bhp at the wheels.

and a scoop to try to ram some cold air into the car.

(it has all the other bits as well to makeit go round coreners, but no other styling bits becuase he cant be bothered, it just goes fast)

So lets not become "Scoop Snobs" before we know the facts.

heheh... it's funny this holier than thou thing about bits of 'your' 'grown-up' car on other peoples..

I've a genuine early (short style) scoop on my mk2 astra, bought from a Subaru dealership, because a NA engine making 210bhp needs air going in the ram pipes...duh - and the scooby duct was quite simply the most suitable..

even some Novas and Saxos need them - only some though - about 1%

Going to get it in the neck, but what the hell

Lack of scoop = non turbo

the above equation is not entirely correct. The alleged 'sport' might actually be a turbo, but with front mounted intercooler, and with a 'flat', bonnet, ie; no scoop (sport bonnet fit?). Gives a real Q car status. Though to be honest, most of the front mounted IC cars that I've seen tend to have the scoop mounted the 'wrong' way round, rather than flat bonnet.

Funny what different uses scoops have ... the ones on Clio Williams' and R19 16V are actually to cool the exhaust manifolds which are nearest the bulkhead ...

Always fancied getting one of those "shaker" hoods that Yank muscle cars had in the 60s, with the airfilter casing for the Holley 4-barrel carb sticking through the bonnet ... maybe I need to fit a bigger IC!

Cool

My neighbour used to rent out one of his garages to some younsters who carried out repairs and "styling" stuff to Nova's, XR's etc. They went through a phase of putting Scooby intakes on the bonnets of these cars until my neighbour advised them that if they had "acquired" them rather than paying for them me and a few of my friends would be round for an animated discussion
