Using a RoadAngel Plus in my new car and it is very good. No wiring required as it runs from a battery like your mobile
You just charge it and stick it to the window, good for about 8 hours, which will cover most trips. You get an in-car charger also, just in case you're caught short
One of the best databases too, and integral front and rear laser detection
When I first set it up it took a while for it to find signals but now it's up and running within a minute every time, I think it needs to learn the locations of the signal, being as they are geostationary.
Have also had an Origin B2, very good but now superceded by POGO and also a TR30, both these units needed to be hard wired which was a pain
RoadAngel can be taken from car to car in seconds with no unsightly wires hanging from the dash etc So it is my recommendation for you

I'm thinking about Getting the new Road-Angel Sat Nav+camera detector.
Updates by itself. No more having to update via your PC as I do with my current Mk1 Road Angel.

Snooper Saphire for 90% of the stuff + for sat nav (works great and a discreetly sized unit, about the size of box of 10 B&H ciggies).
And I grabbed one of those small Road Angel detectors off eBay before they become officially illegal to own

Get a sat Nav system with the POI (points of Interests) imported in. That way you can continue to update really easy and add all kinds of other things like shell petrol stations, cash machines, etc. Also I have a snooper LD920 For opening my garage door. I hear they also jam radar detectors as well. I had one fitted after I saw the police using them on a toll road (and when I got my garage door fitted with infra red).... Was strange when I saw the police looking at the radar strangely when I went past. Can also just turn it off and on next fire they can cotinue to get my speed. I obviously do not want to obstruct anyone .....
