cool just sounds like it was a little flooded which often happens from starting them(and many othe makes) then moving them a short distance. From road to drive or to let another car of the drive etc.

Sounds to me like your coolant temp sensor could have a problem.

Yea, that's not uncommon.

When the sensor starts to fail you only notice it when starting from stone cold (I.E In the morning)

I've had this happen a few times when i've turned it over with the key a few times and then stopped by mistake just before it fired up. Last time that happened it just tried and tried for two mins before it would start again! Sounds like you maybe have the same problem.

No sorry mate, didnt read that post...just meant I thought it might have been flooded. Car has only done it twice about 4 months ago, and both times I didnt let the car turn over and start up properly, instead I let go of the key right on the point of the engine firing into life...so IMO it must flood it or something. Should mention i've had no problem since then.

You should have a 3 pin sensor fitted.

Part Number 22630AA161

When your car fails to start, does the engine spin over or do you get nothing when you turn the key?

If you have a 99my it will be fitted into the aluminum water transfer pipe under the inlet manifold just behind the alternator. you will find 2x sensors next to each other. One will have a single wire attached and this works your Engine Temp Gauge, the second will be a 3 wire sensor which tells your engine management system how hot the engine is. This sensor is critical in determining fueling levels when the engine is in a cold or part warm condition.
