Most of the scoobs that are stolen, are stolen under threat of violence. Hand over your keys or else. That indicates to me, that the immobilsers that are fitted are effective.

its easy to steal any car, we see more of it cos we are looking out for Scoobies, I bet the VW, Nova, Cossie boards are the same.

Thing is some scum will break in to houses to steal keys, regardless of the car, a Guy was attacked in Sidcup kent a few weeks back for his golf keys, he refused to hand them over & rushed back in to the chineese takeway he had just been to asking for help, the attacker had a leatherman knife & was trying to make a mess of this guy, the attacker then bit the golf owner on the head, in the ruck the attacker dropped his mobile & ran off, the police managed to trace the attacker from the mobile, golf owner & car were reunited with in 1 hour.

As stated above, it is easy to steal any car. There are an increasing number of burglaries to houses where car keys and then cars are being stolen, and of course the Impreza is the weapon of choice for criminals, so make sure you put your car keys in a safe place, and certainly dont leave them anywhere in view.

Dont make it easy for the scumbags!

Just a thought from a newbie, hasn't anybody design a remote control imobiliser. Give the to88ers the keys, watch then think they are getting away - then blip - hey presto they are stopped. And if you want to get carried away go for the African security device that shoots 50,000 volts through their bo11ock8! Totally illegal but should look good on youve been framed.

CAT 1 A/I, TRACKER, STEERING WHEEL LOCK, WHEEL CLAMP, VIDEO CAMERA.

good thinking matey about the remote control. you should do something about your idea.

Im a product designer and iv designed a similar product.
it was an alarm thats the size of a keyfob attached to ya bag and the person carries an remote with them. if someone snatched your bag pull out your remote and press the button and the 120db alarm went off.

Doesn't the panic alarm button on your key fob do the same thing (if you have one) - i.e. let them have the keys (and try and get away - mine's a b*tch until you're used to the system) - then as soon as they're moving, trigger the alarm from the other key fob

Just a thought... (not like I've tried it - but I have set the alarm off by pressing wrong button!!!)

that would work but you'll need to carry your car alarm remote separate from your car keys.

How Much is it for one of those alrm systems and what alarm is it?

Dunno - It's the alarm that came with the car (non standard I know). Don't even know if it's Thatcham approved. Someone heard it and immediately knew it was a Clifford, but that's as much info as I can give, the fobs certainly don't match anything on the clifford site.

Just found out that Simon West (on scoobynet as well) is the previous owner of my car. If you're reading, any ideas?

(Plus it also works the immobiliser - There's no way anyone's going to steal the car without the alarm fob). Guess I'd have to carry both fobs on me all the time...

Does everyone else drive round with the doors locked (in case... doesn't stop anyone getting in the window, but...)

Impreza's are ridiculously easy to break into as I found out when I left my keys in the ignition and the autoarm function activated on my alarm.Breaking in as not the same as stealing and thieves know insure demands cat1 security so the easy alternative is the keys be it be means of violence or breaking into your house etc.I have had a know scumbag trying to get into my house for the keys of my car but fortunately I caught him in the act.But a determined thief will get your car no matter what(how many people pay the slightest bit of notice when a car alarm goes off?)I know of someone who had their car(M3 with cat1) stolen in broad daylight in a busy street by 2 guys in a "recovery vehicle"
So do everything you can to secure your car but if you find yourself threatened for keys hand them over just remember the poor guy stabbed to death with a screwdriver recently trying to protect his father in laws 4*4.
The sooner some of these more agressive security devices(flamethrowers,50000volts etc)are made legal the better!bring back hanging for car thieves I say!!!!!

Iv seen two blokes robbing 4 alloy wheels off a car with locking wheel nuts in under 15 mins. it just show if they want your car they'll get it.
im worried if i get gold alloys some w4nker will rob them. Well i could use 4 locking wheel nuts on each wheel, then they will need **** loads of sockets to get my wheels off (how do you do the icon with the big grin)

Agreed!!! Your personal safety worth more than the car. Just ensure you try to remember as much detail as possible to tell the Police. Cos the smallest details are usually the ones that get results!

Have you never heard of"fell of the back of a lorry"The people who buy stolen alloys, stereo's, phones, parts etc are as bad as the cu*ts who steal them in the first place. No doubt some of them drive Scoobs too.

The point is why arent car manufacturers developing more ideas on security, as everybody either knows someone or has had their own car stolen. You are payingtens of thousands of pounds and they cant come up with a better idea than an alarm. Banks r starting to use eye scans a cashpoints! finger print scans? Surely these high paid designers could come up with a fullproof idea.

I have heard of alarm systems that can page you if the car is stolen or broken into, not sure about the range though.

When leaving the car drain the fuel tank - aha that will stump the bu66ers, might be a bit of bother if your in a rush.

Better still leave your pit bull in the back.

FreeT, as i'm a cynical bu66er my theory is that car theft is good for car manufacturers.
Think about it why make cars theft proof and reduce replacement sales.
IMHO the technology exists eg G-force sensor on Skyline why not theft proof cars (more sensible).
My point is less gimmicks more usefull deterents.

I agree Bug-eyed.Gimmicks everywhere but no real attempts at making cars harder to steal or even break into.we've all seen the programmes showing £10k £20k £30 cars being broken into in seconds

I share your sinicism of the manufacturers, but there must be a product on the market that will be 100% successful to stop car working without permission (ie back to the additional remote control idea or similar) They cant have bought the rights to all patents. Tracker is good but can still be returned to you half beaten to death by a lamp post by the yobs, cant it!

You all think that you are all cynical!!!!!!!?? Try joining the Police then you will know what cynical is all about!!! Of course manufacturers are going to not make the cars unstealable, insurance companies would suffer as well and it is all big business!!!! There is always a hidden agenda!!!!!!!!!!!!!
