UK Spec Scooby
#1
Hi there, as u can C im new to this board so hello to ya all. I have a few questions if some of U could help.
Im currently an owner of a FRST, but am looking to buy a UK spec Scooby. I only have 10K but want bigger wheels, SS exaust, insurance & kill switched to **** so those thieving gits will have trouble. So I have about 8k to get 1, I have seen a couple in this price range but they were 5 door.
What is the fuel consumption like?? I know people R gonna say well it depends how heavy my right foot is, Well I like to drive my cars hard-ish. I dont C the point in paying all that money for the car & insurance to pootle around to save a few quid on petrol. Does someone have any ides?? my FRST only does 20MPG so it cant be much worse than that, I had a look @ the spec & they said that about 19MPG is normal is this true?? Im not looking to do anything to the engine untill the premium comes down (£1040, Ouch)
Also what R servicing costs like?? I assume expensive, also do U lot mainly do it yourselves?? or R they hard to work on, ive only been in them, not seen under the bonnet of any yet.
Any other info would be of great apprecition, hopefully B a scooby owner soon.
Many Thanx in advance.

Hi nitrous and welcome
right, there was a post on here only a few days back about cost of running a scoob, if you look back over 7 days you should find it, also its not reccommended to do your own work on an impreza, the engine is a flat 4 and the sparkplugs are near on impossible to find!!! Service costs vary depending on mileage but most are reasonable, as for fuel, it has been known for imprezas even uk ones to only get low teen mpg, but thats with energetic driving .
Best to look up the last 7 days worth of posts thou
Regards
Tony

Hi there and welcome,
It's a pity the Search facility isn't working because it would be a excelent way for you to get this info as it's been asked many times. If you look back even further that the last few days you will find al sorts of good stuff on this BBS (if you have the time to trawl trough it)
I recomend you visit the excellent SIDC site if you have not already and take a look at their FAQ at

Welcome.
Whereabouts in kent are you? Just wondering as I'm a kent lad as well.
have you considered an import? got my 94 WRX Wagon for aprox 10k last april. Pretty sure you can get imports for around 8 - 10k. You may also find some early UK ones for around this price as well, but as you say they'll prob be 5 door, which is not too bad (but then I do *own* a 5 door )
As for servicing, it depends where you get it done. as mine is an import scooby dealers won't touch it, so I've got a local garage that specialises in Jap cars to sort mine out (GDA Sportscar imports in crowborough). Warrenders are import guys in Horsham, and they may well service UK spec cars , so they might be cheaper than scooby dealers.

Welcome.
Just get one and we all look after it for you. Crikey, there is enough engine boffs on this board to start an errrr 'engine boffs association" you will also find that with the scoob you have no over heating problems like you must of had with your FRST! Get one mate and you wont be dissapointed. Roughly the same MPG as your festa by the sounds of things.
I own a WRX MY97 (VF22 Turbo, Exhaust, PiperX induction kit and get returns of 20-26 mpg on urban and say anything as low as 8mpg when the loud pedal is engaged. But, its the most fun you can have with your clothes on.
Get going.....go on...what you waiting for?

Fecking Hell, What a response, I was only expecting a couple @ the most. Was checking over my lunch & had no response, just finished work to check the Board & had 5 butes in there, CheeRS 2 U all, Nice1.
Im gonna look through the board to find out about fuel economy etc..., just another quick 1, U say roughly about 20 MPG & this is normal use, fecking hell. Expensive hobby eh, so monthly im looking @ £85 Insurance & £215+ for petrol, **** it though, I havent got a mortgage yet so what the heck. Tell me its the Scooby spirit.
Im gonna check the linx out that U guys have posted, so hopefully this will answer most of my questions, although I think i'll B posting a few over the weekend.
Thing is what do I get, 4 or 5 door. I have seen a nice 5 door with 79k FSH, 17" alloys & looking very clean it up for 8k, also its a trader so I can part ex my FRST, could even have it by monday.
Once again people many thanx,
Nitrous.

i`m obviousley the exception here.My MY98 , keeping with the flow of traffic on a normal A/B Road returns me 30 mpg( normal unleaded), if i boot it , then yes, i hit the teens, but only when i`m booting it!
Funny `cause the previous owner told me that he had never had above 23 mpg either!

Hi Nitrous,
Between the 4 and 5 door the only difference is looks. If you don't mind having a 5 door and are getting a good deal go for it.
I have a 4 door but some 5 doors on here embarrass the 4 doors on track. James in Puff the Magic Wagon springs to mind.
