Default Which performance pack?

Hi

After owning my hawkeye WRX wagon since new I now want to get into the world of modding.

I've got about a £2k budget for my first upgrades and wondered what performance pack was best to get. The PPP is £1700 and gives me 260hp whilst one I've seen at ScoobyClinic is £1400 for 275hp. No brainer me thinks..but I wanted your advice.

I'm also gonna get the brakes done as part of the upgrade but only to improve the discs and pads for now, rather than going down the 6pot route

Any advice is much appreciated.

I could be wrong, but I thought the PPP for the 2.5 hawkeye gave you 270bhp. Also I assume your car is under 3 years old, so the PPP will retain your Subaru warranty, but the ScoobyClinic may not. So, it's not the no brainer it seems.

Personally, I went down the route of sourcing the parts I needed (Sports cat, decat centre, up pipe and back box) and then had them fitted and remapped. It was a little bit cheaper and gave me more power, but I lost all my warranty (did it at about 18 months old).

It depends on how brave you are and what warranty (if any) ScoobyClinic give. They may just cover the engine and Subaru might get funny if you have a problem with, say, the shocks. I don't know.

As for the brakes, I've not done anything to mine yet, but the first step will be some decent pads (Pagids or Ferodo) and braided lines. If you've got more to spend, then the Godspeed 335mm conversion is highly regarded.

Dont forget to add the dreaded VAT to the scoobyclinic price. Comes to almost 1700, so no real difference in price.

a friend recently had his hawkeye wrx done, ecutek remap & a backbox, it got similar power to the PPP (a bit more infact) the backbox was around £200 & the remap just under £600 all in.

Bugger!

Oh well. Thats makes my mind up then. PPP gonna get booked in tomorrow. Godspeed brakes look nice too. Got a place that'll fit em for £50 for me.

The rest will just have to come when I get a bit closer to the end of the warranty (Nov09) although I'm sure my dealer did tell me that aftermarket parts didn't effect the warranty on everything i.e. shocks if you've upgraded something else.

Thanks for the replies everyone

Not forgetting by adding the PPP you will also be increasing your cars resale value

Funny you should say that. I got chatting to my local dealer at the weekend whilst having a test drive in the new STI. (not impressed hence the upgrade of mine!)

He said that PPP would only add £200 to 300 to the value now, as only people in the know actually know what it is. He reckons that the PPP is worth more once the car is much older and becomes something "the boy racers" look for.

Interesting theory as its not what I was told by the dealer who sold me mine.

What's an ecutek remap? I have heard about it from the dealer where I bought my car in Germany too. It is not car specific (i.e. they don't map the car live on a RR AFAIK) is it?
I also have the same car as you and looking at options but PPP doesn't retain the warranty in Europe.
Cheers,

IMHO if you're planning on keeping the car a few years then Ecutek all the way. Choose the right mapper BTW..!

Bang for buck I'd go down the specialist route instead of the PPP.

Many places offer a warranty on their work as well, powerstation for example.

Or source the parts yourself, get them fitted and then have a casual drive down to see the mapper of your choice.
