Father son rivalry
I got my Scooby 2 years ago and on showing my dad he responded "you little s**t im gonna have to get one now"
He went and got a UK300 51 Reg and was happy enough until he drove mine and was sure that mine was faster. Of course with this I was happy enough until he has informed me that he has just gone and got a 53 plated Sti PPP 305BHP ...
Now i have to spend some money to get mine into shape and get it faster than his, when will this nightmare - albeit an exciting nightmare - end.

Hey Moff, you don't have to go far to get that sorted!
Funnily enough my sympathies lie with your Father
You should see how Martyn and I fight at work!

Haha in the same boat mate.
When I got my first scooby (05 plate STi PPP) my old man never took much notice of it and when I did take him out in it a few times I didn't really open the car up (thinking in hindsight I should have).. as newage STi owners will know, the car's are deceptive and will behave very much like any other saloon as aposed to a classic (which is very raw in comparison).
Sold my scooby 3 months after getting it, drove it to one of my ex company garages to get some tyres fitted and one of the mechanics there pretty much begged to give him first refusal (drove home and gave him a call, next day car is sold).
Then I went on the look out for my classic, it had to be an STi Type RA (didn't really care about age but really wanted a minter STi v3 Type RA). So I am sitting around for 6 months waiting for the car to arrive and my old man at this stage is nagging me about why I didn't keep the newage and how I keep changing my cars lol.
So my pops goes and buys one of these and parks it up in my drive way:
So I did him the honour and let him take me for a drive (we have this argument who is the better driver all the time).. did a trip through Woburn, Brickhill and then back through Passenham.. I am very impressed and at this point trying to bash my head against the airbag wondering where my bloody car is.
My old man has had a fair few super saloons in his time, including a really trick Ford Cortina back in the day however he always gave me a hard time for buying performance cars.
So car arrives bar a mishap, out of the body shop a couple of months later, the conversation goes:
My Pops: So, you said you bought a saloon car this time?
Me: Erm yeah
Pops: What is it, a diesel or something?
Me: erm.. yeah sounds like diesel sometimes.. it has no electric windows, no AC, no electric mirrors and no sound proofing..
Pops: *gives me a look shaking his head*
I took the car out of the garage (thankfully the Blitz bung was in place), reversed it out of the drive way and parked it up on the road, wave the old man to get in so we can go for a drive.
My old man is quite fussy due to owning Merc's a lot.. Comments at how nice the interior is for a jap car and looks up at the roof vent and then asks why the sunroof is so small - lol. I ask him to strap in and then go to Shell to get £20 squids worth of petrol and then make my way up to Northampton so I can drive into Hanslope and take him down a really nutty country road.
Not sure why but I get nervous with my pops in the car.. even when I am 32 with 2.5 kids! Pootle along at speed limits all the way, not really boosting much but my pops comments at the ride being a little bumpy but I quickly interrupt and tell him it's due to the tyres I am running.
At this point we have cleared the camera's and made our way into Hanslope, I pootle along through the town as it's a small village with schools so made sure I didn't incur my pops wrath. Get onto the country road and I just look at my pops and tell him to sit upright.
Magic moment, the look on his face was legendry. I get through the right turn and start straightening up, wind the DCCD up to the 2nd green light and then start feeding in the throttle in second gear.. giving my pops a hint at the brutality he is about to experience.
Into 3rd, turbo on song I let the car loose, 6.5k rpm bang into 4th, 7k rpm into 5th at a rapid rate of knots (already I am out of gears). The RA just launches down the long county road coming up fast to a really tight left hander, I change down to 4th as I am braking, then a quick heel and toe into 2nd and whip the car round the bend onto another straight and more sharp bends.
Get home and he is quiet for the first time.. gets out, looks at the car and then gives me one of his fatherly warnings "son you need to drive carefully or you will hurt yourself in this car".
I took that as vote of confidence and his way of saying "not bad".
You and your pops should get on a track mate to settle it properly, sounds like your both into your fast car's and I am sure the modifying bug will bite your old man!

My son and me have had quick cars for quite a few years now.
Chris has had the usuals - Escort turbo, Sierra Cossie, two STi's and now an EVO IX FQ 320 which I wanted to buy from him. I've had turbo converted Mondeo, and two Imprezas, and to keep up with him, my present STi has had some serious money thrown at it! Real, friendly rivalry in our house!

Your car is lighter though so with the right money at it you could quite easily give him a run for his money i.e Power to Weight Ratio meaning you should come out a winner

I'm sure with money spent in the right areas and with the help of the right people around here it wont be too long.
