Car is running like a bag of ****. Help Please
Hi there guys. Bad news this time. Started the car to go to work this morning and after about a mile the engine check light came on and it wasnt boosting properly, very juddery.
So i stoppped and checked under the bonnet to see if it was anything obvious. Nothing there apart from a very lumpy idle ranging from 1000 to 200rpm.
So i phoned around and everyone says its the MAF unit. What do you guys think? Is there anyway of knowing for sure?
It sort of all ties in as i fitted a Zero Sports elbow on monday and things were fine b4 that.
So, opinions please, all help welcome.

with the engine running, unplug the Maf - it it clears and idles normally then you've goosed the Maf and will need a new one.
No idea what a zero sports elbow is but if it's new induction kit that doesn't utilise the old panel filter then it's probably that. Having said that Mafs are pretty sensitive especially MY99/00 model ones and can just die for no reason or from being disturbed.
If MY99, then a new sensor is circa £80 and is a a quick job to swap by yourself - worth doing once a year as a consumable IMHO
Good luck

Yeah it is a 99 sti 6. The kit i have is a Blitz Induction cover which uses the top part of the old airbox and then its own bottom part along with the LM panel. The elbow is a rplacment of the standard black hose, between the maf and the induction hose. Ordered a new maf, will be with me in the morning. Hope that solves it. cheers m8.
Any more thoughts welcome.

First thought: don't try driving it on boost, in case it is a maf/fueling issue. Certainly sounds likely; they're very fragile on the MY99/00
Could be lamda sensor or coilpacks maybe?
Get it to a specialist mate; will take them 5 mins to find out!

it could be your idle control valve had the same problem with my 99 sti would just cut out if you didn't keep the revs up. They are not cheap its a part you have to get from subaru . Does it hunt on tick over as this is how it starts and then just gets worse and you have to be quick with your feet stop the car keep the revs up and change gear it's a nitemare other wise it cuts out. we changed the maf first made no difference then it gets expensive.

Just in case....
It could be the MAF but equally likely... The elbow might not have been seated or sealed into the other pipework properly. Also, Look at the turbo end of the turbo inlet pipe (if that's even possible "on the car"). Make sure there are no cracks or other defects in the pipework.
