Default Cigarette lighter won't work

I have tried plugging in my satnav to the cigarette lighter bit it isn't working.
I have never tried to use it before and it would appear that nothing will work in it(mobile charger, satnav, cigarette lighter)

I can't locate a fuse for it either

Paul.
Knowing off by heart, where the ciggy lighter fuse is, is a sure sign that you've been around these bloody cars for too long?

Do you have a circuit tester or a multimeter?

I'd first test the socket is a) live in the centre and b) has an earth to the outside.
then, if all is OK, suspect the element on the lighter itself.

Look for 12V between the centre terminal of the lighter socket and the outer metal part.

If it's there, the culprit is your lighter element. If no 12V, however, you'll need to check wiring.
