Anti lag is a rally car developed principle. The object is to introduce a backfire on demand that keeps the turbo spinning when the throttle is off, producing instant boost response when you go back on the gas. An aggressive anti lag is very effective, although destructive in equal measure, and only really on if you can afford to replace turbos as and when. The result of using it is fireworks out the back end, one of those amusingly futile and probably illegal things that we boys love.
It is possible to have "less aggressive" anti lag, that is more toy than tool. It is available with a Simtek as a cost option, although you'd have to ask me for it!

its a very worthwhile toy IMO. Completely pointless but great nonetheless lol. I lie, you can feel the difference when its switched on on the Simtek, even though its set to be not very aggressive

hrness, he would have been talking about mapping in some extra fuel on the overrun to make it pop and bang, not antilag

Full-on anti-lag will ensure you are creating positive boost and lots of it off throttle.... the mild kind is just a noise and flame maker and would not be creating much if any positive boost...... this is how I understand it.

If you can feel the difference I would suggest you are making positive boost off throttle...... not great for the turbo.

Only to your pocket in regards to throwing fuel down the exhaust system! Your be getting a spark plug fitted in your back box next!

People have been mapping for throwing fuel down on over-run for years.

I have had anti-lag on ECUTEK..... but if I told you how, I would have to shoot you at least twice (sorry) afterwards!

you can feel the difference as soon as you touch the throttle to accelerate. Its not making positive boost, just not quite as much of a vacuum when off the throttle

My rally car has anti lag , it will produce about 10 psi of boost holding it at about 2500-3000 revs while standing still , and just doesn't have any lag , its great , it is set very aggresive though , downside is that the turbo's only last about 200 competetive miles

the SimTek is an aftermarket ecu which has the option for anti-lag. It depends on how aggressive it is set as to how long your turbo will last.

Suggest you speak to Alan or Martyn at Alan Jeffery - Engine Tuner for more details.

I would love switchable Anti-Lag, but went down the EcuTek route rather than standalone ECU, so can't have it.
(Unless it finally becomes available, then i'll be first in the queue!!!)

I did get the overrun (pops n' bangs) mapped in by AndyF though, was even more extreme than ALS, without the damage. Was great fun. Had it about 6m, noisey as hell and uber flames (View my scooby!).

It does make the car a little less smooth to drive i found and believe it or not, i was actually getting about 10-15 miles more per 50L of fuel.

Had it removed about 4m now. I miss it. Thinking of paying AF a visit to re-instate it . Can't even get a tiny pop out the car even on overrun, down a hill, trying to provoke it with the throttle.
