not heard of that, more likely oil leaking from the rocker covers which is a common fault.

Early classic sumps tend to corrode on the front face (under the oil pump) but have never seen a porous one.
They do tend to leak around the mating face with the block if ordinary Silicone Sealant is used.

They dont have a gasket as such - its FIPG (formed in place gasket aka Sealant).
There is an "O" ring on the Internal oil return pipe from the Oil seperator plate to sump but dont tend to give problems.
Are you sure its not the Oil Pump leaking (backing plate screws come loose or front seal leaking) ??

Easy enough to drop the sump off - just make sure you remove all the
old sealant from the sump and block face and de-grease the faces also.
Use Grey 3 Bond or Subaru's Red Sump sealant - you wont have any problems after that.

I have a ( suspected) similiar issue having just bought a 15 yr old MY93 import. Not sure what oil the previous owner used ( it was fully synth though) but when we put it on a ramp yesterday we clocked the sump.

It only drops miniscule amounts of watery oil ( hence the porous issue) - see pics. In the fullness of time I shall replace the sump

Surely others have had this problem before ?

Cheers
Cal

yes quite a common problem on older cars and can be done insitu, subaru now only use 1 type of sealant a dark grey colour in a tube you fit into a skeleton gun which starts to go off in 5 mins so you have to be quick!
