Default Double DIN Security question (Opinion not Technical)

Just though I'd ask if people are worried about having their Double DIN units nicked?

I'd been looking at a few models and fancy the Kenwood touchscreen, but none of them have a removable facia.

Even though they are keycoded I am worried that it will attract theives, who will nick it without realising it's unusable.

Any thoughts?

I had one in mine and I never worried about it, if you did, you'd never do anything.

Had mine over two years no issues but what you can do is get a black plastic blank from a diy cut it to size and use velcro to stick in place and it looks like a blanked out dash. I did this for several months when I first had it but now stopped but it worked quite well

Reano - Good Idea about the black plastic, I think I'll try that!

I know they are just as easy but at least some single din's are face-off models. I think I'll take the plunge and get on of these! http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/4893.html

No they are not. Double DINs are screwed in and the facia needs to be removed to get at the screws.

Most single DINs slide into a cage and it just needs the keys to slide them out.

I was the same as you rsedwards, did'nt like the thought of havind a double din with no removible bit on it.

Thats why i went for a 7" single din kenwood flip screen which has a removable pannel so it wont work with out it.

got an alpine dvd unit in mine, would be silly to nick the screen part as it wont work with out the other 2 parts which you put around your car, and alpine wont sell the other parts to anyone looking for them, so no im not worried at all.

Time! There are 6 screws holding a kenwood in under the dash & you would have to remove/rip off the centre fascia to get it out, all takes time so no where near as easy as a single din.
Had a ddx unit for 4 years in 2 scoobs with no problem.

My double din Kenwood and all of them are screwed in, a thief would have to be able to remove the dash and then fully unscrew the screen, a longish job.

Just get one mate, loads of motors have screens in these days.

Thanks for the opinions, I've just found that I don't need new brake pads so the HU is a go. I will let you know how I get on.
