Spec D Tracker / sat nav
Hi all
I'm interested in a spec D WRX STI that has a tracker and sat nav (standard on that car). Does anyone know how to active the tracker (does it need a subscription?) and howo much the nav/tracker costs per year?
Thanks
Also - is the pioneer head unit to the stereo secuure, or do you need to remove it when parked - similarly, what about the smart nav unit - can it be removed/nicked?
Cheers

Hi,
I have a Spec D. and the navigation is a Smartnav unit, which also offers the stolen vehicle tracking option. Prices and info are on follwing website:
http://www.smartnav.com/pdfs/Existin...er_Tariffs.pdf
My screen is fixed (as it came from Subaru) however if it needs replacing I heard of Smartnav sending people the removable screen version which is safer.
I always remove the faceplate on the Pioneer when leaving mine, and beneath the flap is the Ipod connector.
BTW car is brillliant.
Cheers

Cool, thanks. Is it worth getting the tracking and/or sat
nav, i.e. do you recoup the costs with insurance savings?
Is the stereo face easy to remove? I could open t, but not take it off - the guy at the garage seemed to faff with it too.
Thanks again.
There were 300 made and it's around 280bhp, right?

My Smartnav unit had never been registered, hence I got a full year of free subscription, will take a view on subscription at renewal time - probably minimal cost benefits to me in terms of insurance re. tracker but some peace of mind.
I already have a portable Garmin satnav so wasn't that bothered about the feature, but have found Smartnav to be OK and being linked to Trafficmaster, it has managed to provide directions whilst avoiding some big traffic jams. Overall as a system it's growing on me.
Dead easy to take the face off the Pioneer unit, press eject top right hand button, face drops down and gently pull away from bottom.
300 made and std. STi output, although mine has PPP.
Cheers

Hanky - I took some time to register my SmartNav unit, BUT if you don't register it then your Tracker isn't registered either (as far as I'm aware). I went 6 months without an active tracker because the unit wasn't registered.

MrMajic - Hope all goes well with car - I am an Architect, but practice in Sheffield.
Gareth - Thanks for input, Subaru dealer assures me Tracker is working and they tested it with Smartnav, but may check directly anyway!

I've had my Spec D for nearly a year now and I'll be returning to Tomtom rathe than renew the Smartnav. As a freebie, the navigation was OK but limited compared with a decent sat nav system.
I'll pull out the touch screen as its fixed in place.
I'll have to renew the tracker subscription though as it is a condition of my insurance.

Thanks Butty. How easy is it to remove the touch screen? I'd imagine that it'd then leave some holes. I've got a tom tom too, but was going to give the sat anva nd tracker a go for a year.
I was a bit concerned that the screen is so obviously in view, but I'm guessing that any theives would know that it needs a subscription?

If your insurance don't insist on tracking devices then I'd recommend not having one. Would you really want a car back that has been driven to near extinction by thieving ******* ? Also, they are pretty much useless as for under £100 on eBay you can buy gizmo's which over-ride them. The most common way to steal new-age Scoob is with the keys anyway, so the system won't arm until you eventually realise the car has gone, and by then they will have removed/disabled it anyway. Quality physical security such as Disklok's and Dipol/Barrier deadlocks, backed up by the Clifford Blackjax system is where I'd put my faith.
